Good news for ND basketball fans!
The Irish beat Alabama at Alabama tonight, 78-71. Alabama was ranked #22, so this might finally get the Irish some notice!

1. OK, I'm going to admit to my idiocy
I clicked on this thinking I was going to read a post from a Fighting Sioux fan (University of North Dakota). Duh.

2. Easy mistake to make--I figured most people would think ND
because there are a few fans here, and LOTS on Irish-haters!

3. You've accomplished nothing
We suck. That #22 ranking is a joke and that team is very average.

Hope you guys have a solid season, but at the end of the year, victories at Alabama won't be carrying to much weight. Dammit, I hate it worse than you do.

Roll Tide!

5. I understand
Btw, we lost @ Temple today, 68-58.

It's gonna be a looooong year for Bama fans.

6. I saw a little of the beginning of the Temple game...
...not looking good. Was wondering if it was justa let-down from the other night.

7. Nah,
no let down. We just aren't very strong this year. We've had some really great teams over the past couple of years, and all of those players are now gone. 2005-2006 is a definite rebuilding year for my beloved Tide. :(

8. So, you're saying they're ranking is basically a salute
to years gone by?? Probably.

9. It is
We went like 24-8 last year and won the SEC West. The year before we were in the Elite Eight. In 2002, we won the SEC and got a #2 seed... like you say, this year's preseason ranking is just from our past results.

Our coaching staff is horrible. I'd kill to have Mike Brey (or anybody besides Gottfried). He seems like a good one.

10. Well, the season is young...
ND doesn't really have a standout player like they had the past few seasons, so I'm not real hopeful.

11. Oh well,
enjoy the Fiesta bowl. I really wish that ND & 'Bama would get a football series up. I'd love a rematch of all those great bowl games we had against eachother.

12. You would? Hmmmmmmmmmm...which of those games did
Bama WIN? Oh, none! Hee-hee!

Actually, that would be a great match-up in a bowl game. It just might happen--I do think Weis is a good coach, unlike our last one. This year shouldn't ned up just being a fluke.

13. We always came up a point or two short in the bowls
but you guys don't have "The Sack!" We gotcha back in '86. Too bad I wasn't alive for any of those games...

Sorry I don't have a photo of it--the last drive of the 1973 Sugar Bowl!

16. It was like 3rd and 20, ND on the Bama 15 or something, anyway, ND
was getting nowhere, so it was sort of Hail Mary pass that got ND to about mid-field. ND was up by 2 or 3 at that point, and since they were getting nowhere, if they had had to punt, it would have punt Alabama in position for a field goal. Instead, it allowed ND to run out the clock and win! Anyway, I was justa kid, watching it on telelvision, way back when the Sugar Bowl was played on New Year's Eve.

We've always had a knack of losing the close ones.

But it's good to see that you are a Red Sox fan to offset your love for Notre "Play for the tie" Dame. ;)

There are more complaints between me and ND... but we'll just leave it that I respect your program and that we're both fans of tradition rich schools. ;)

20. Whenever I think of Alabama now, I think about Bear Bryant
dying the day after he retired--geesh! I mean, I know he was always doing what he loved, but it seems like a raw deal, finally getting to relax, and then bam!

21. It wasn't the day after
Edited on Mon Dec-12-05 07:57 PM by BamaLefty
He beat Illinois in the Liberty Bowl in his final game as an HC and was then going to stay on at UA as the Athletic Director. The Liberty Bowl was on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day or something, and Bear died on January 26,1983.

Wanna hear something cool? My dad was a student at UA at the time, and had gone to see Coach Bryant in his office on the 25th of January to get an autograph and to say hello. The next day, he passed away. We've got the autographed picture of him doing his famous pre-game lean against the goalpost in our house. It's dated 1/25/83 by Bear himself. And another thing, he always said that when he retired from coaching, he'd be dead within a month. Crazy huh?

22. That is strange...
and did he really say that?

Sort of like Charles Schulz, knew he had completed his last Peanuts, and then went to bed and died in his sleep.
