OK you golf nuts. Did the SI writer single out Michelle Wie for the
infraction? I'm scratching my head that this guy notices an incorrect spot that amounted to three inches closer to the hole. Then he waits for the round to end so instead of a two shot penalty, she gets a disqualification. I smell a rat.

1. Me too
It seems that it was something that would have been let to slide through in most other cases.....

2. He's not an official.
It's up to her to report her own infractions. That's what makes golf unique.

7. I better not become a Pro-Golfer, then.
I'm compulsively honest. If I think I've even been a bit misleading I can't sleep.

And my scores aren't low enough to win fairly. ;)

8. I know and Wie admits she probably should have checked with
an official before her placement. But how did some Sports Illustrator reported notice she made a 3 inch placement closer to the pin? I can't believe that anyone else makes that placement and he thinks, jeesh, I swear that's three inches closer to the pin" and reports it to an official. i don't believe he would.

13. Bingo
Players on all the tours get DQ'ed after television viewers, other players, fans report infractions.

It's a game of honor, and she failed to live up to it.

4. That was discussed on the Dan Patrick show on ESPN radio
Not that he intensionally got he disqualified, but whether or not a reporter should become part of the story. Most of the reporters were saying he should have stayed out of it.

5. Didn't the same thing happen to Craig Stadler?
She's suppose to call herself on that, and take the strokes. Failure to do that means turning in a incomplete and incorrect card. It's her fault.
Bet she won't do it again.

6. Golf has it's unique set of rules.
A male player was disqualified from a tournament yesterday because he had a bent club in his bag.

It is just a fun game to play - it's mainly competing with yourself, improving your game, knowing and following the rules. I love the game. :-)

10. Yep and I think it was Craig Stadlers son
He was also in contention. The DQ will probably keep him in the minor leagues next year.

15. No and apparently, it was not a noticable bend - just a bend
that some official caught.

Like I said, golf has unique rules.

12. I wouldn't worry about her, LOL.. between sponsorships and future winnings
I think she'll be doing OK. This will merely be a rather expensive lesson for her, getting in the pool for the first time.

14. I hope her caddie is packing!
Seems her caddie is the one who advised her rather than wait for an official to come and moniter the situation...good caddie :eyes:

16. well the tour official told ESPN
that it was more like a foot to 15 inches, not three.

She's under a microscope, she is immediately the highest paid player on the women's tour (in sponsorships) and she's never won anything. (literally, she has never won a golf tournament, I think at any level) welcome to the microscope. And playing on the PGA tour will be even worse.

his baLL was on the sand/graveL just outside the water in a hazard (if you can pLay your baLL out of a water hazard, it's LegaL).... whiLe attempting his shot (great recovery) he raked his foot on the graveL... that was caLLed for a 2 stroke penaLty which he didn't know, and nobody noticed, but a viewer at home caLLed in to report it. because he signed an incorrect scorecard he was disquaLified... and he was PISSED that a home viewer was abLe to get him DQed.

19. The ball clearly rolled toward the hole when she dropped it
All she had to do was re-drop. If the same thing happens she gets to PLACE the ball at the point it landed. She should have known that, this situation happens all the time, for some players every round of golf.
