Michelle Wie DISQUALIFIED!
Just heard a brief report on The Golf Channel.

Evidently she did an "illegal drop" ....I'll try and catch the details later.

4. It was from yesterday. Some sports reporter complained that
he thought she should have penalized herself a stroke because the drop was a foot closer to the hole than where the ball had landed. They measured, and he was right, so they disqualified her for signing an incorrect scorecard.

9. If the MSM reporters were as agressive as the sports reporters
We'd be praising the fifth year of Gore's administration now, and complaining how nothing exciting ever happens anymore.

12. Why blame the reporter?
Michelle and her caddie should have known the rules. She should have at the least called her playing partner over to look at her drop.

That reporter is a former caddie on the European and American tours. He knows his stuff.

The rules are the rules. Don't blame the reporter for attempting to keep the rules in mind.

14. She's a class act?
Isn't she the one that threw a hissy fit a year or two ago, and pissed off all the other golfers?

I'm asking for informational purposes because I don't KNOW, but I thought she had done something in one of her first tournaments that ticked everyone off.

10. That's the third or fourth time that has happened
Craig Stadler got penalized in San Diego for "building a stance" via kneeling on a towel while hitting a shot under a tree, and Paul Azinger was DQed at Doral a day after he moved some rocks with his feet while trying to get firm footing at the edge of a water hazard. There was at least one other one that resulted in penalty/DQ but I don't remember the specifics. And two or three others where fans called in but the original ruling stood after review.

What gets me is some of the on-course rulings are so imprecise. On Sunday I attended the final round of the Las Vegas tournament. In the second hole of the playoff, Jim Furyk yanked his tee shot on a par three into a lake. The idiot officials determined Furyk's ball crossed over a small patch of land in the front of the green before it plunked. That allowed Furyk to drop the ball near the front edge of the green instead of a much more difficult shot on the other side of the lake.

Believe me, the ruling was bogus as hell. Not even close. My friend and I just happened to be standing on the direct flight of the ball. It was 3 or 4 yards over water minimum when it reached the front of the green. The fans around us agreed, and were shocked as well. Turned out it didn't matter, because the opponent got up and down out of the bunker to win, but when I got home and heard about the Michelle Wie ruling it just jumped out at me how random and innacurate the rulings can be, then they accept something like that a day later.

11. my email to Keith O
Help me out here, a reporter told tour officials Sunday afternoon that he was concerned about Michelle Wie's drop so she was DQ'ed. We have reporters at the beginning of the Iraq war holding up jars of Clorox claiming it was WMD's, Geraldo comes to mind, and giving a president a pass on every single bungle in the country. Now we have this one guy with the "integrity" to measure a drop? How do we get him in the White House press corp?

and carelessness. She really should have known better, but at least she learned a lesson without losing too much (only 50 grand or so)

oh, and Annika Sorenstam took a penalty shot on the final hole for an unplayable lie (
course, when you're up by ten with one to play, taking the penalty doesn't really bother you, right?)

15. Too Much
There is too much Michelle Wie hype already. Win me a tournament and lets talk, until then Sorenstam is the class of the ladies tour.
