Sidney Crosby Sweepstakes to be announced NOW!!!
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 03:03 PM by Oreo
Here we go... draft lottery time.
I'm listening on Fan 590 http://www.fan590.com/

I'm going to call Buffalo as the winner (as bad as that would be!)

GAME ON!

2. Shoot out is a done deal!!
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 02:21 PM by Oreo
wow

Bettman just said shoot-outs will decide regular season games

"We will do everything to be the best that we can be and to earn your continued devotion. We know this was a terrible time for everyone associated with the game"

No center line!!!! WOOHOO!!
Tag up reinstated for icing
Space behind the net is smaller by 2 feet!
Smaller goaltender equipment

Sweet!!!
Everything I wanted except for the old rule where a goal on a power play ends a 2 minute penalty.

More dynamic schedule emphasizing divisional and conference rivals. (sucks... probably means there will be less inter-conference games)
Going to the Olympics... no all-star game during Olympic years

3. Oreo, you wouldn't josh me about the space behind the net thing...
would you????

I think that is as important as anything!!! Denis Potvin had a great article about it in the Hockey News a couple of years ago. This is a great move. Think about it...4 more feet in each zone is a lot more space to play offensively...they weren't doing anything behind the net except clutching and grabbing!

Sorry, but I like more division and conference games. Except that might mean the Habs won't come to L.A. this year

6. Game points...
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 02:27 PM by Oreo
Not clear on what they said. I think it's going back to 2 points for a win, 0 for a loss. I guess it would have to be that way with a shoot-out.

Just said current points system... 1 point for end of regulation tie, 2 for win. I'd rather have the 2 for a win 0 for a loss. A lot of teams made the playoffs because they tied a bunch of games.

10. Agreed, I didn't mind ties, but...
those neutral zone trap teams would just play for ties to make the playoffs

7. Question on US TV Contract
Bettman hemming and hawing...
justifying lockout as necessary.

Have relationship with NBC. Confident new nat'l cable package will be signed in the not to distant future.

14. US TV contract will always be negligible...
although if these rules changes open up the game enough to attract more viewers...

but I still think that hockey is going to stay behind NASCAR and golf in the US for awhile

Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 02:57 PM by Oreo
Are you serious? Do you consider Detroit a hockey city? They really showed it in the 80's when the Wings sucked.
Hockey is bigger here than in any other US city hands down.

Or is the only hockey city to you one that starts with an M and ends with ontreal?

20. How could Minnesota NOT be a hockey city???
I just want to see one of the struggling small market teams get a shot at Crosby, and Minny doesn't count as struggling OR small market in my book.

I consider all the Canadian cities, Detroit, New York, Minny/St Paul, Boston, Philly, Buffalo to be hockey cities. Here in L.A., only a small group of hard-core fans pay attention to hockey. The TV ratings are shit! The only reason they have decent attendance here is because of corporate season tickets. That's both Anaheim and the Kings. Chicago probably should be included in my list, if only because they are original six.

39. It's probably the best place for him to go.
Of all the old-school teams that play in places that are viable hockey markets, Pittsburg is the one most in trouble. Crosby might be the answer to reviving the moribund franchise.

So if you're a Western team, you'll only play the Habs once every 3 years.

41. This I don't like at all.
The divisional rivalries are nice, but there's still wiggle room to schedule out of confrence games. If you play 8 games versus each of the 4 other members of your division, that's 32 games, which leaves 50 spots on the schedule to play the other 25 teams. Instead of emphasizing confrences, why not just make the remainder home-and-aways against every other team?

As an east-coast fan, seeing how the team will stand up on a long west-coast trip is part of the fun of the game. Furthermore, a lot of the Canadian fans like to see all 6 teams duking out with one another.
It means that no matter who your team is, there's 10 teams you won't see them face.
