Wow Tim Tebow sucks. To be completely honest, I've only seen him QB a couple of games and only ONE in the NFL. I became a Tebow defender simply out of amusement at the way his detractors couldn't critique him without bringing his religion into the mix somehow.

Wow. What to say about his throwing motion other than to compare him to a pitcher in MLB baseball who pitches from a windup with runners on first and second with nobody out.

He doesn't throw spirals, he throws ducks.

No more flamebait Tebow threads from the top of this mountain, I can promise you.

My tail is so far between my legs it's tickling my well nevermind.

You guys win.

1. Based on that delivery and all the wobblers, I never thought Tebow would make it in college
I saw two of his high school playoff games on TV and was thrilled the hated Gators were his destination. How can a guy with a limited skill set like that succeed in big time college football? Even during his freshman year in a mop up role to Chris Leak I was snickering at the prospect of Tebow taking over full time the following season. This is the vaunted SEC we're talking about, right? Then he wins the Heisman Trophy and later a national title, and not far from two

So I was wrong about Tebow much earlier and more blatantly than you were.

But in my case I always stick to a foundational belief that everything tends to drift back to the beginning. Serves me well. If I was so sure about Tebow's flaws it will prove out that way eventually.

However, it does serve to demonstrate the cavernous gap between college football and the NFL. I particularly love the current SEC insistence that nobody could give LSU or Alabama a game. Let's see, Tim Tebow dominated the conference but Andrew Luck would be run over.

2. The gap between the NFL and college
Edited on Tue Nov-01-11 05:47 AM by trumad
Is indeed huge. Amazingly huge.

They made a big deal in the combines about his mechanics.... mechanics that I knew for sure would haunt him. You have tomahawk choppers in the NFL and if you throw from the ground....forget. about it.

Plus his college speed is negated by the pro speed.

His will to win simply doesn't overcome his deficiencies at least on a consistant basis.

3. I don't follow college football to closely, admittedly,
but when Harvin joined the Vikings, I did see that Tebow's numbers changed drastically when he didn't have Harvin getting him a lot of yards after the catch.

4. The game is different
I can hardly type Florida without fuck'n Gators slipping off the keys but I saw him play twice. He was/is the best college player I have seen in the SEC, replacing Hershel Walker.
I have seen a lot of SEC games stretching back to before Archie Manning and this is my belief. The Jesus crap was bad enough with him just doing it but the 4th Estate dwelled on it.
That said I don't think he is a pro QB though. Maybe a tight end but too good to keep out of the game.
Fuck'n Gators.

7. Wha?
When Herschel Walker joined the Georgia Bulldogs, they were coming off of a 5-6 season in 1979. The next three years, they went 33-3, 24-0 in the SEC, 24-0 at home. The only teams they lost to during Herschel's career were 2 national champions (Clemson and Penn State) and Dan Marino's Pitt team that was ranked #1 for much of the season. His freshman year, Walker broke Tony Dorsett's freshman rushing record and ran for 150 more yards with a dislocated shoulder against a Notre Dame team that hadn't given up 100 yards to a running back all season. Tebow had a bit role in a team that was led by Chris Leak his freshman year. Their sophomore years? Herschel finished 2nd in the Heisman balloting, leading his team to a 10-2 record. Tebow led his team to a 9-4 season, including a loss to the same Michigan team that lost to Appalachian State (e.g., more losses in his sophomore year than Herschel's teams all 3 years). There is no fucking way in hell that Tebow is better than Herschel. You have simply forgotten how great Herschel was.

8. Saw them both and I will stay with my evaluation.
Hershel was the best running back ever in the SEC.
I can sure understand your thoughts though.

10. I saw them both, too.
When Tebow had people like Percy Harvin surrounding him, he racked up the numbers. When Harvin left, Tebow's numbers went way down. When Buck Belue and Lindsay Scott left Georgia, and Herschel was stuck with John Lastinger and some no-name receivers, his numbers went up. There was no comparison. Walker was far, far superior, and I don't understand anyone who would assert otherwise.

5. I heard Steve Young on Tebow last week...
local (Bay Area) radio. He echoed what everyone here has pretty much said: he's bad. Lacks basic QB fundamentals to play in the pros -- that type of stuff. Maybe he could be coached, but you'd think Denver would have had plenty of time to do that by now.

6. Maybe He's Not Listening
I think the humility is forced and fake. He's had success doing it his way. Florida changed the play calling to suit his type of QBing. So, he may not really be focused on changing the things that make him bad in the pros.

And, i dnb't know if someone can be taught accuracy. Either somebody can hit a guy running 20 mph in the hands or they can't. Some improvement is possible, but i doubt they could teach terrible to be excellent.

9. My experience as an Arm Chair QB expert is----
ya either got it coming in or you don't.

Look at Christian Ponder with Minnesota. Played at FSU at the same time Tebow was playing for Florida.

Tebow---by far---was the biggest college star.

Ponder on the other hand is destined to be a Pro Star.

The guy has all the intangibles to be a Good Pro QB and he's proving it as a rookie.

His biggest two intangibles---pocket presence and accuracy---the two intangibles that Tebow does not have and will never have.

A lot of experts saw Tebow's flaws from the very beginning---including this arm chair QB expert.

I admit---I thought he'd be able to overcome his flaws because he's such a gamer---but as you can see--- he hasn't.

After two seasons, if the guy hasn't changed his throwing motion and improved his accuracy-- it most likely will never happen.

11. Ironically, I think many Tebow detractors became detractors for a similar reason
Tebow was a media darling long before he was a media target, and announcers in college couldn't stop talking about how great a person and how great a Christian he was in addition to being a great football player. I remember the commentator at the BCS Championship game actually saying something like "if you spend five minutes in this guy's presence, it will make you a better person" That kind of devotion is bound to create a backlash.

12. You're exactly right
I really have nothing against the guy and will be the first to say he was a great college player.

The devotion thing....all these knuckleheads doing the Tebow bow down, kneel down or whatever they call it... they're the souls that I want to crush---hence seeing Tebow fail will delight me to know end.

Petty === maybe... but so is glorifying a fucking football player.

13. And I agree
But I think if he wasn't a great Christian he wouldn't have gotten all the hype from the announcers that he got.

I got tired of him when I'd follow a game and the idiot play-by-play guy would ask, "How do you think the would do if they had tebow as their qb?" and Denver isn't even playing.
