Coaches' scuffle exemplifies what 49ers, Lions are all about
You'll hear about how disgraceful it was that Jim Schwartz and Jim Harbaugh had a run-in near the tunnel at Ford Field after the 49ers' coach led his team to a 25-19 win over the Lions on Sunday. To hell with that.
-----
The confrontation between Schwartz and Harbaugh wasn't contrived, or a ploy by either man. It was real. Did Harbaugh swagger over to the Lions' coach after his Niners threw a flurry of fourth-quarter finishing blows? Yup, and he punctuated that with some sarcasm in his press conference. Did Schwartz overreact in looking for a brawl? Sure he did, and he didn't back down later. Good for them both.
------
Take this to the bank: The players on both sides loved seeing their coaches get after each other. Each leader has instilled a fighter's mentality in his team, and this was the manifestation of that approach. Harbaugh's bluster, Schwartz's intensity. All there on display.

I say, enjoy the show. And enjoy that, in this age of chuck-it-around-the-yard-all-day offense, we had a couple of teams going at it Sunday that are a little more Mike Tyson than Muhammad Ali when they get in the ring.

Good piece. Worth the read. Gets past the wrangling about who's right and who was wrong. Who really cares? The point is, both teams have taken on the personalities of their coaches....to great success. Only the Packers stand above them record wise.

Who would have thunk it..6 weeks into the NFL season and all the talk is not about the usual suspects.. Eagles, Pats, Jets or Cowboys, but about Harbaugh's 49ers and Schwartz's Lions.

After years of being down, the fans of both teams have suddenly got it good...thanks to these two strong willed emotional coaches.

Who's Got It Better Than Us?! NO-BODY!

2. I'm trying to offer some perspective..
but I'll continue to respond to someone calling Harbaugh an "asshole" any day of the week. How anybody, whether it's you, joey or somebody else, can try to sell these two coach's brief altercation as all Harbaugh's fault is beyond me.

Then again, your Dolphins suck..so I guess you've got nothing better to do...whatever, enjoy yourself.

3. How anybody can call the other coach a punk
and not acknowledge the punk behavior of their own coach is beyond me.

Then again...we're dealing with douchebag Niner/Giants fans.

8. I have no ax to grind in this one, but it looked to me
Edited on Mon Oct-17-11 11:59 AM by Kingofalldems
like the SF coach shook the Detroit guy's hand and gave him a pat on the back. What's the big deal?

9. Not even close.
You take the time to shake the opposing teams coaches hand.

He acted like he shook the water boys hand.

10. I admit that Jim Harbaugh's antics can be quite frustrating
but you don't think Jim Schwartz deserves half of the blame?

Schwartz was apparently egging him on all game.
