Cam Newton officially named starter for Panthers
A.P. / espn.com / 9-1-2011

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Cam Newton was treated like a starter during his preseason finale. He led one efficient drive, threw a touchdown pass and exited.

Then, after the game, his coach made it official: Newton will start for the Carolina Panthers in their opener.

3. What Do They Really Have To Lose?
I don't see the Panthers as a threat to make the playoffs so they might as well get Cam Newton some experience and find out what he's got.

4. They rattle his confidence so much he's never able to perform at a high level
Playing pro QB is almost as much mental as physical.

He's a long-term investment and should be brought along slowly.

I think I know a little bit more about football than whoever is making decisions for the Panthers.

6. They really don't have that much of a choice..
Jimmy Clausen or Derek Anderson? Thanks but as a Panther fan I'd rather see the future QB go ahead and get all experience he can now. It's not like the team is going to challenge for a playoff spot.
