*COLLEGE FOOTBALL: WEEK 1*
Edited on Tue Aug-30-11 08:12 PM by Condem
Yepper, forumites. Year three. I start with a very cool story involving my beloved Hawks. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/6909913/... .Fuck. Every time I see that picture the room get's awful dusty. We can only hope that ol' Hawkeye doesn't take a steamin' palin on the fifty yard line. Okay, on to bidness. Auggie brought up a very interesting point on missing weeks. This is what I've come up with. Throw out your worst week, with the exception of the final weekend. So if you miss one, a goose egg might not kill you. Thirteen weeks (I think) so you should be able to make twelve of them. To kind of parallel the pro contest, I've moved it up to fifteen games a week. Most of us have gotten better, with the exception of my ass. The competition heightens.

Fishwax is the defending regular season champ. a la izquierda is the bowl champ two years running. Without further fucking ado. Are we good?

Edited on Wed Aug-31-11 08:01 AM by RT Atlanta
I'll lead with three thoughts: i) hope this is an enjoyable season and one without any devastating and lifelong injuries to the players

ii) War Eagle to the defending National Champs (2011 is a reload year for Auburn - too many youngin's to repeat last year's performance)!

iii) As much as I'm a SEC guy, I do not see the conference repeating as National Champions this year - we may put a team in the game, but at this point I'm not sold at all on a "team of destiny" (but maybe Darth Visor's Gamecocks will be that team?)

The updykes certainly have to be the preseason favorites to win the West - especially with the LSU suspensions.

Reporter Tony Barnhart has been saying all summer that he thinks the LSU/tide game is a "play-in for the national championship" - of course, Tony is prone to a little sensationalism.

Personally, if my team can't repeat, I'm pulling for the Gamecocks to go back to the SECCG, win it this time, and hopefully be in the NC hunt at the end.

47. Out of date line on Miami/Maryland; Terps are -3
Miami was between -5 and -6 prior to the suspensions. The game actually had been off the board for a week until the NCAA's decision on the Miami players, which was announced late Tuesday afternoon. The sportsbooks put the game back up the next afternoon at Maryland -1. It quickly jumped to Maryland -3, where it sits now.

In other words, the line quoted in this thread is off by more than a touchdown.

I took Maryland +6 and +220 on the money line as soon as the Yahoo situation surfaced. It was guaranteed to result in suspensions. I mentioned those bets on Canes sites and recommended that others do the same.

That's the one thing about sports betting that outsiders fail to grasp. Picking winners is not always required. You have to pounce on the advantage situations, trusting your instinct. In this case I guarantee a profit regardless of the result by taking Miami at plus money on the money line, and I'll have at least a 9 point middle on the spread -- Maryland +6 and Miami +3, or perhaps slightly higher.
