Nicasio got hit in the head.
DENVER (AP)—Rockies pitcher Juan Nicasio was hit in the head by a line drive and carted off the field.

The right-hander was struck by a ball off the bat of Washington’s Ian Desmond. The ball bounced off the right side of his head with a smack and rolled away over the first-base line.

The Rockies said Nicasio was taken to the hospital.

Nicasio went down and lay flat on the mound for several minutes as he was attended to by training staff. He was moved onto a cart by four medical personnel, helped by teammate Todd Helton(notes) and manager Jim Tracy.

He could be seen blinking and moving his hands and legs before he was put on a stability board and loaded onto a cart.

No link. I'm drunk.

Baseball can be very dangerous.

4. Rockies' Juan Nicasio has broken neck, will undergo surgery
Rockies pitcher Juan Nicasio, who was hit by a line-drive in Friday's game against Washington, will have surgery for a broken neck, the team said.

Nicasio broke his C-1 vertebrae, the Rockies said, and will be out indefinitely.

The ballpark fell virtually silent for several minutes as

Nicasio lay on the Coors Field mound for several minutes Friday, as teammates and medical personnel surrounded him. He was put on a stretcher and taken to an area hospital....

7. Odds of full recovery are good but
He should probably never play baseball again- once an injury like this occurs you are always at risk of permanent damage if any kind of injury occurs there again even minor. He's lucky to have escaped damage to the spinal cord. Poor guy.:(

10. I just read the impact of the ball was not the cause
of his injury. It was the fall that caused the fractured vertebrae.
