Looks like the Giants went all in--traded for Beltran

Gave up 2 top prospects, Zach Wheeler and Gary Brown. The Mets got the better of this one, IMO.
On Edit: Looks like Gary Brown not included--maybe not so bad.

1. Huh...
Last night must have freaked Sabean out. They're desperate for offense.

Do you mortgage the future for today? I don't know the answer to that. It'll cost a fortune to keep Lincecum after 2012.

3. Yeah...
Sabean has mentioned he has a finite window of opportunity with the Giant's pitching staff (and that includes a bullpen that's pitching spectacularly). Sounds like he decided to go for it this year.

8. Beltran will more than likely resign with the Mets
So I'm pretty happy with this deal. Don't much about the guys coming back in the deal but if the Mets resign Beltran they made out like Bandits.

9. Carlos Bonds is apparently demanding to play RF..
the Giants already have an excellent RF in Nate, but now Bochy is giving in to Beltran's demands..http://www.csnbayarea.com/07/27/11/Giants-to-move-Schierholtz-to-left-for-B/l_sfgiants.html?full_args=07/27/11/Giants-to-move-Schierholtz-to-left-for-B/l_sfgiants&blockID=544105&feedID=2539&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+csnbayarea_topstories+%28CSNBayArea.com+Top+Stories%29

I don't like this trade. I don't like it one bit. Wheeler walks too many, but he has a big upside, and though I realize Beltran will help the Giants in the short term, I just don't believe in trading top prospects for rental players..

The only way this can possibly be justified is if the Giants repeat (been 35 years for an NL team) or resign Beltran (Scott Boras, need I say more?)...meaning neither of which is likely to happen..

10. I wouldn't sign him long term--too many injuries
A great hitter though, hits top pitchers hard.

12. I dunno
he has a reputation for being an underachiever on a whole team of underachievers. Frankly I think the only Mets I would ever be interested in are David Wright or Reyes. I've also heard Beltran is a difficult personality, which given the personalities on SF, probably is going to make a difficult clubhouse

13. I don't like Beltran playing Right at AT&T
It's a tough poistion that needs a fast defender with a rocket arm -- like Schierholtz.
