Real tough loss for the Bucs
Edited on Wed Jul-27-11 10:36 AM by PRETZEL
it's one thing to lose on a close call that doesn't go your way, but another when a call is totally missed.

1. That was one of the worst calls ever.
If the play had been close, well that happens, especially in the 19th inning. But the Atlanta runner was nowhere near the plate and yet the ump called him safe.
And what's sad is the Selig and his cronies will say "sorry" and the ump will go on like it never happened. And there will still be no instant replay except on disputed home runs.

2. They need limited instant replay...
but Selig won't allow it because, well, he's an idiot.

8. No. They need better umpires.
Ones that can keep awake after seven hours.

Horrible call.

4. Your link is bad but I saw it on the Pirates site
I have never seen a worse call. That ump should be severely disciplined.

The ball beat the player by a mile but was the runner tagged? Looks possible, but I couldn't see a definitive angle.

9. Runner gave up. He knew he was out.
Ump just wanted to go home.

Needs to be fired

10. I watched this perhaps a dozen times and couldn't see
definitively where the glove touched the runner. It sure looks like it though.

11. I thought Denkinger's call was bad
and the call last year when the pitcher lost the no hitter. This tops them both. He never made the plate.

13. I stayed up to watch the end of it, and the Bucs were robbed.
that's the sort of play that even if he missed the tag, the ball got there so far ahead of the runner that he's usually called out even if he misses the tag. He was tagged, AT LEAST once, maybe twice, it's hard to tell the second time, and I'm not sure the runner even touched home until after the call was made.
