Well look who is leading the NL in ERA..
After going 6 2/3 shutout innings last night, Ryan improved to 7-1 and finally has enough IP to be ranked among the ERA leaders.. He's the Giants 5th starter and was only inserted into the rotation because of the injury to Zito earlier this year. Now, Barry is healthy again, but Vogelsong obviously isn't going anywhere.

1. Another great start last night by Vogelsong...
plus solid defensive play and -- (gasp) -- hitting with RISP!

Vogelsong's comeback is an incredible story. Kudos to GM Brian Sabean, Dave Reghetti, Bruce Bochy and all the other coaches who had a hand in his return.

2. Vogelsong has indeed been a great story..
not just this year but career wise. He and the resurgence of the Panda have helped offset the injuries to Posey and Sanchez. Speaking of injuries, after Tejada went down, Crawford made the turn on a key DP that Miggy would have never been able to accomplish, and he also contributed an RBI single.

On a team that's built on pitching, you need good defense. So, I just don't understand why Bochy continues to run Tejada out to SS, what with his lack of range and tendency to commit errors. I trust what happened last night will finally rid him of that notion..

3. Tejada has been swinging a hotter bat
Crawford had something like one hit in his last 21 at bats. I can understand Bochy wanting to play Tejada, but like you, feel his best use is perhaps off the bench.

I thought the same thing on that double play. I'd rather have Crawford play everday at short as well.

The biggest problem in the line-up right now is Aubrey Huff -- or at least, where he plays in the line-up. He's got to step it up or step aside for Brandon Belt.

9. Won five of his last six...
and has pitched well against some good-hitting teams. No arguing a 2.34 ERA.

10. His last start in Houston Friday
was unreal.

Complete game, 83 pitches.

11. 83? Yeah, that's unreal.
I hope we can see him when the Pirates come to S.F. next month.

Uh, wait a minute...

13. Thanks. Awesome stuff.
Six pitches to close out the 9th inning. Looking at it pitch-by-pitch I see he doesn't throw a big fastball -- must have really good control and throws a wicked combination of sliders, sinkers and occasional curves. He and McKenry had the Astros really guessing.
