2011 MLB Draft: First time ever in 46 years...
the first four picks were all pitchers. Hasn't happened since the amateur draft began in 1965.

#1: Pittsburgh Pirates: Gerrit Cole, R, UCLA

#2: Seattle Mariners: Danny Hultzen, L, Virginia

#3: Arizona Cardinals: Trevor Bauer, R, UCLA

#4: Baltimore Orioles: Dylan Bundy, R, Owasso High School, OK

Story and college stats at the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6632661

Best of luck...

1. I think pitching is Pittsburgh's biggest need
I think they have some nice offensive players.

2. Pittsburgh's biggest need might be someone to make draft decisions.

Or at least someone better to develop talent. To consistently have such a high pick and to have THIS as your list of draftees that made it to the pros in the last 8 years is not good.

Year Rnd Overall Player POS GAMES
2008 1 2 Pedro Alvarez 3b 95
2006 1 4 Brad Lincoln p 11
2006 8 230 Alex Presley cf 19
2005 1 11 Andrew McCutchen of 262
2005 4 121 Brent Lillibridge ss 139
2005 8 241 Steve Pearce 1b 135
2004 1 11 Neil Walker c 127
2004 2 52 Brian Bixler ss 68
2003 1 8 Paul Maholm p 159
2003 2 45 Tom Gorzelanny p 118

In all fairness, I clipped this from another website http://www.thebaseballcube.com/draft/teamsdraft.asp?T=23
I'm not 100% sure this is completely accurate, but if they were really drafting dozens of players each year and this is all that made it to the pros, especially for a team that can afford to give young talent a shot, then THAT is the problem.

For almost no other team do you have to go all the way back to 2003 to find the last ten MLBers.
