then, as long as he doesn't roll the ball up to the plate, you'd better be swinging.. dammit.. I really wish they could come up with some technology to monitor and standardize the damn strike zone..

1. They could do it easily,
but that would eliminate so much of the fun for the MLB drama queens in the broadcast booth and at home.

2. Drama Queens??
Yeah.. that describes me... that third strike on Sexon in the first wasn't really 8 inches off the outside of the plate.. it was an optical illusion.. oh well.. at least, if Guardado is his usual perfect self in the ninth, the Mariners may finally get their first win against Mr. Martinez.

3. Don't you take a certain joy in bitching about the awful calls?

4. Actually, not really..
I know I'm probably not representative of the average fan, but for me, the best games are the ones where you don't even notice the officiating crew. (This goes for all sports... ) I will give this ump credit, though.. his strike zone was ridiculously huge, but it was consistent for all pitchers.

5. I apologize for making a false assumption.
The strike zone has been deteriorating for entire decades-spanning period during which I've seen MLB. Similarly, such quaint ideas as "travelling" and "double-dribbling" in basketball seem to have gone out the window miles ago.

I share your dismay, in a general way.

Things fall apart. The center cannot hold.

6. No need to apologize... it's saturday, there's whiskey to drink,
and baseball to discuss...it's all good.. and while I'm not a big basketball fan, the few times I have caught a game on tv, I was wondering about the travelling and double dribble.. remembering back to elementary school, when our PE teacher taught us how to play... "Isn't that illegal??" "Only if you're not a 7 foot tall multi-millionaire superstar center."

7. yep! 4-1 win for the Mariners
Now that Bret Boone is out of the lineup maybe the Mariners can pick up the offense a little.

8. They have - it's called Questec
It's in most MLB ballparks, and the powers-that-be use it to monitor umpire's performance.
