Evan Longoria's AK-47 among items stolen from rental property
By Gabe Lacques, USA TODAY

A break-in at the spring training home of Tampa Bay Rays players Evan Longoria, David Price and Reid Brignac resulted in the loss of $56,000 in property for the three players, mostly electronics and jewelry.

Today, Charlotte (Fla.) County sheriff's officers revealed another item that now is in the hands of thieves: An AK-47 rifle belonging to Longoria.

An official with the sheriff's department, quoted by the St. Petersburg Times, says Longoria's rifle is "perfectly legal." A news release notes that the suspects entered the home through an unlocked window. The Rays were playing their final home exhibition game of the spring at nearby Charlotte Sports Park when the break-in occurred.

When asked about the weapon by news reporters, Longoria referred to it as a "personal item" and refused further comment on it. ...........(more)

2. Yeah, everyone should have an AK-47...not just tiny guns, because we
all know if everyone were armed, we'd all be safer...and if everyone had more powerful weapons, we'd be even safer still!!!!!

Longoria's stolen weapon was an AK-47 rifle, and was "perfectly legal" according to the sheriff's office.

Longoria is simply exercising his constitutional RKBA..

4. Most people with fully automatic weapons secure them.
Or is this one of those "not really" AK-47's?

5. Domestic AK-47s (IOW - legal to own)
are semi-automatic. The fully automatic ones are only carried by police or military(though I never seen an AK-47 of any kind in the Army).

Also Semi-auto AK-47s are not legal in every state though they are legal in most states.

6. Yeah, but AK-47 sounds so much more threatening than "rifle"...
