What a despicable POS. 62 years old people. I present to you: one Harvey "Al" Updyke, of Dadeville, Alabama. "This" behavior and the sneers that go with their feigned air of superiority, is what the Auburn family is constantly dealing with in Alabama.

An Alabama man has been arrested in connection to the poisoning of Auburn’s famed Toomer’s Corner oak trees, WTVM in Auburn is reporting.

According to the television station, 62-year-old Harvey Almorn Updyke of Dadeville, Ala., was arrested Wednesday night and has been charged with one count of first-degree criminal mischief, a Class C felony that carries a punishment of one to 10 years.

University experts, with the help of officials from several different agencies — for example, soil samples were tested at Mississippi State — are doing everything in their power to save the 130-year-old trees, although all evidence points to them fighting a losing battle.

This jerk gave as a reason that Auburn fans rolled the trees when Bear Bryant died. That didn't happen, but they did roll the trees when Bryant retired.

12. I live in California

but a good chunk of my family are alumni of Bama, and they all hate it. I've been a fan since the Bear days, and I thought it was pathetic.

I've heard horrible and nasty things spewed by both sides of this debate. People have died over this rivalry. A couple of trees aren't that much compared to actual deaths, to be honest. I just object to being lumped in with this idiot. So would the rest of my family, if I had bothered to tell them this.

Both sides have extremist fans who go too far in this rivalry, and accusing all of one side of despicable behaviour because of the actions of one, or a few, doesn't help matters at all.
