This afternoon two extremely rare events will happen simultaneously.
1) I will watch TV.
2) I will watch a football game. The Rose Bowl, to be specific.

The last time these 2 events occurred simultaneously was the last time the Badgers went to the Rose Bowl.

That time it was just a game.

This time, it's practically personal, ever since I heard about some dimwitted Texas DJ saying it was the Texas Christians against the Madison Socialists." I tell ya, we gotta stomp 'em into the ground.

2. JP - Here is my take...
Edited on Sat Jan-01-11 01:44 PM by givemebackmycountry
TCU has no idea what they are about to encounter.
They are going to hang around for a while, and they will absorb a few blows and probably land a few of their own.
But, then the game is going to wear on them and right around the 4th quarter, all those punches they took are going to finally take their toll.
And when that happens, the Badgers are just going to stomp on their dreams and send them back to Fort Worth or whatever Texas hell-hole they climbed out of.

4. While these events are not rare in my household...
I will also be watching that exact game, and rooting for Wisky. I'm a Husker fan, so I've been pulling for all the Big 10 teams in the bowl season.

8. and watch 1/2 time for our band.
the 5th quarter rocks. my family had a reunion this summer and across the park lane, there was a party of wis stdents or something and with just 10 band players marching to their party, we had a 1/2 hour or so of fine entertainment. many in our group did the chicken dance on cue. hillarious. ON WISCONSIN!

11. Allow me to brag up the San Francisco Liberal Giants clobbering the Bush Rangers in the World Series
Edited on Sat Jan-01-11 03:07 PM by NBachers
Rangers players and sports casters were making a big deal about the pot fumes rolling over the field.

12. "Bush Rangers"
You don't seem to know that George Bush hasn't had an interest in the Rangers for the past twelve years.

And, "liberal" multi-millionairel Bill Neukom was a key Microsoft lawyer who helped defend the company against an anti-trust lawsuit filed by the government.

13. Uuuuh- excuse me- W Bush & his family were prominently featured in televised coverage of the Series
and it was direct association of W and the Rangers- you cannot cannot cannot truthfully deny this. It's fact; it happened; and it's true, dude.

21. Just another reason for Texas bashing
One referred to the city where TCU comes from as a "hell hole." Probably have never been to Fort Worth. But that kind of thing is typical of DU.

Oh, and my mother graduated from there as well. She loved going there.

23. The only place I would ever bash...
is Newark, NJ.

Other than that, the rest of the country is great.

:+

Having said that, though, I'm still going to root for the Badgers. And blame it on a family friend's daughter in law (from TX) who married their (MA) son while he was stationed down south. They just moved back up to MA in September, and since then the DIL has not missed an opportunity to bash MA for just about everything.

Before even moving up here, she made a most odd statement about how MA is "full of loud-mouthed obnoxious Italians".

Yeah. She really did say that. Actually, wrote it. On FaceBook. I saw it.

Everything is BETTER is Texas, according to her.

So fuck her.

Go Badgers!!!

20. Go TCU!!
Wonderful university, great campus, and a fine city (Fort Worth). It's not a "hell hole" and it's produced some fine graduates, including my mom.

Pull for whoever you like. But this urge to use a sport event to once again bash Texas is ridiculous. But, it's typical for DU.

Enjoy the game, and may the better team win. And screw politics; it's just a game.
