Goodbye Fridge :(
I'm watching Ralph Friedgen's last game as Maryland's HC right now (winning 23-3 currently) and I'm really depressed....I've been a Maryland fan since the late 80's when I went there and he has been the most successful coach there since Bobby Ross's great Boomer Esiason's team. And there were plenty of horrid teams between them. He went to 7 Bowls in 10 years including the Orange Bowl in his FIRST YEAR, pretty impressive for a school trying to be a big time academic school over atheletics. A class act, there is no one who knows him who doesn't like him. He refused to leave when the NFL and other high profile colleges came calling, feeling loyalty to his Alma Mater. He was pretty successful without getting all the high caliber recruits that other schools get (Maryland's admissions have gotten VERY restrictive in the last decade) and to me, was everything that was good and fun about college football. His players LOVE him to death.
Good luck in your forced retirement. You will be missed.

And Kevin Anderson, Maryland AD? Fuck you to hell for treating such a class act so shittily. I'm one alum that you will NEVER get another penny from, AND I will no longer follow the football team.(BTW nice job firing ACC Coach of the Year asshole)

3. The 1983 team was good.
"....and he has been the most successful coach there since Bobby Ross's great Boomer Esiason's team."

I saw that team play Auburn back in 1983. I think they were ranked in the Top 10 at the time, though they faded some the end of the season. Auburn won 35-23. Many outstanding future NFL players were in that game including Boomer, Bo Jackson, Lionel James, Ed West, and more. Maryland keep keying on Bo because he had gained about 250 yards against Florida the week before. Tommy Agee, the AU fullback, gained about 200 yards because of it.
