Cutler vs. Orten trade...
Holy cow is it hard to tell who benefitted or hurt from this. After watching Cutler screw up big time agaisnt my Skins who after all don't have the world's best D, and then seeing Orten and the Broncos just go to pieces against the Raiders of all people (go Jason Campbell!) I'm just really really shocked at how bad each QB is at the moment.....

1. Orton is having a very good year
2,140 yards, 60.5%, 7.75 YPA, 11 TD-4 INT. Yes Orton had a bad game against Oakland but overall he is having a very good season. Before the Oakland game he was well on pace for the single season passing yards record.

3. Well, last season he was good too.

3,802 yards, 62.1%, 7.0 YPA, 21 TD, 12 INT.

I guess we'll have to see but he is getting the ball down field on so much on a consistent basis I really don't see that being likely. He is still on pace to get close to 5,000 yards. Even in the Oakland game he was getting the ball the down field. I think his poor completion percentage was hurt by being down early and fast. That doesn't typically help passing numbers in a single game. We'll see.

4. lol
Maybe he's having decent stats but he's sure not getting the Broncos anywhere close to the playoffs at the moment. I saw a lot of bitter angry FB posts from both my Chicago friends AND Denver friends last night...One exchange was particularly memorable..Denver fan says "I think we need to trade Orten". Chicago fan says..."You can have Cutler back....."

Aside from throwing for over 300+ yards games and 70% completion games I guess he isn't doing enough. Maybe he needs to have 500 yard games with 80% completion. Perhaps they would lose those games anyways. Plus they were dealing with injuries early on and had Knowshon Moreno miss a few games. There are many factors that play into making the playoffs and they still got a chance. That Denver fan that wants to trade Orton should try out Max Hall and Derek Anderson. Those QBs have poor numbers, plus they are poor QBs at the moment. They aren't poor QBs with fantastic passing numbers which is very, very unlikely to happen. I pointed out that the stats that rank near the tops in the league and you lol.

8. I'm just laughing because this conversation really echos
a conversation I had with my Browns loving Dad yesterday. Apparantly, the Browns are the only team in the NFL that has not had any TD's or FG's scored on them on the opening drive. As they are now only 2-5 (thanks to Drew Brees giving them points) we then had a discussion about meaningless stats. I mean, even if your QB is putting up huge numbers and has a passer rating over 100 but you aren't winning, how much do those stats really mean (Tony Romo is the poster child for great stats, disappointing results)

9. .
It means how good the QB is playing. I'm only paying attention to that. If you're talking about wins and losses you discuss the whole team. Derek Anderson/Max Hall so far have a better record than the Broncos but they are having far worse of a season than Kyle Orton is. Last year Mark Sanchez numbers were typical for a rookie but the Jets had the top rushing game and top pass defense in the league is a big reason why the Jets made it to the title game. I also fill similar about other positions. A receiver with 100 catches and 1,000 yards is also better than the 60 catch, 800 yard receiver regardless of their record. You bring up Romo who has excellent regular season numbers and they also have a great regular season record with him starting games. So by your logic what he is doing lead to success. Yes that hasn't carried over so much in the playoffs but that is a different animal. Look at any QB or coach who has made the playoffs. The vast majority are at .500 or worse in playoff wins or losses primarily because you lose one game you don't have a chance to win another. The obvious exceptions for QBs are Tom Brady and Joe Montana who have a high winning percentage in the playoffs which I think is a result of their play as well as their entire teams. Strong on both sides of the ball.

5. I never understood this trade...
though it's a moot point after Tebow becomes a starter.

7. It's simple. Cutler didn't like McDaniels and was quoted as such.
Then he backtracked and said he never wanted to be traded. Any new coach would have dumped him if he wasn't going to be cooperative.

11. As a Broncos fan, I think Denver got the better of the deal
I think Orton has clearly outplayed Cutler since the trade. Last year he threw for more yards and had a higher y/a than Cutler did. Cutler had more touchdowns (27 to 21), but more than twice as many interceptions (26 to 12). Cutler threw almost as many interceptions in his first year as a Bear as Orton did in his whole career there. And, of course, Orton won more games last year.

Obviously yesterday sucked, but Orton didn't give up 300+ yards rushing. The problems with the Broncos this year aren't the fault of Kyle Orton. The season's almost half over, and the leading rusher has a whopping 53 yards per game and 3.3 per carry. The running backs are averaging a pathetic 2.6 yards per carry and have more fumbles than touchdowns. Their rushing defense isn't quite as bad as their rushing offense, but it's close enough. They've got a pretty solid pass defense, but they're not getting much pressure on the quarterback. Seven sacks they've gotten all year--Cutler took seven sacks in the first half of the Giants game
