Giants set pitching record in win over Cubs..
Madison Bumgarner (6-6) struck out nine in seven innings as the Giants extended their streak of allowing three runs or fewer to 17 games, most in the live-ball era (since 1920).

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, no team has sustained that long of a stretch in a single season since the 1917 Chicago White Sox held opponents to three runs or fewer in 20 consecutive games.

I figured I better get this up there, because the Giants' pitchers streak will surely come to an end now that they're going to the controversial Coors Field. It's almost as if some of the balls used when the Rockies are batting have never seen the inside of a humidor.

Oh, another Giants record set last night..Jose Guillen became the first Giant in their long history to get hit by a pitch twice in one inning..

1. Best staff in baseball... which brings up this humidor thing
It's still necessary to make contact with ball, not alwasy an easy thing to do considering a batter has about .25 seconds to decide to swing not knowing whether the ball is thrown off-speed or with breaking movement or will even be in the strike zone.

That being said, I would still expect -- and really hope -- MLB to take a more than casual interest in monitoring this issue over the weekend.

2. Check out these stats..
The Rockies have out homered their opponents 102-67 at Coors, but only 64-60 on the road. Percentage wise, that means Colorado has hit approximately 60% of the HRs at home compared to only about 51% on the road. Does it mean anything..I don't know. That kind of discrepancy could be attributed to any number of factors that have nothing to do with the humidor. Still, it helps bolster the suspicions.

I'm with you, MLB has to take more than a passing interest in this humidor business..but not just for this weekend, but as a matter of policy going forward into the future. The Giants and Dodgers have questions..probably every team in the NL does. I should think it would be good for baseball and for the Rockies image, to have at least one MLB employee involved in the humidor process.
