Wearing Florida hat to press conference gets Arkansas radio host fired
<snip>

"Wearing the wrong hat can cost you your job in Arkansas. Northwest Arkansas radio personality Renee Gork found that out Monday.

Gork, a Florida graduate, wore a hat of her alma mater to a news conference by Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino on Saturday.

Petrino commented on Gork's choice of headwear after answering a question she asked.

"And that will be the last question I answer with that hat on," Petrino said.

Gork, an on-air personality for Springdale radio station KAKS, which calls itself Hog Sports Radio, said she was fired Monday by the station."

And in other news....

Miami Hurricanes, Florida Gators get new ranking to argue about

The University of Miami has unseated the University of Florida as the No. 1 university in the state -- off the field, at least, according to U.S. News & World Report magazine.

<snip>

"Move over, Gators. The University of Miami is now the top college in the state of Florida, according to U.S. News & World Report magazine -- a first-ever accomplishment for the Coral Gables school.

In this year's installment of the widely read, oft-debated rankings, UM ranks 47th among national universities while UF ranks 53rd.

Which school parties the hardest? U.S. News steered clear of that pesky question. Ranking criteria included peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, and giving by alumni.

UF has long been the highest-ranked Florida school. UF spokesman Steve Orlando said budget cuts from state leaders in Tallahassee during the recession limited UF's ability to hire faculty and keep class sizes low -- a key factor included in the magazine's number-crunching.

"Bottom line is we've seen our state appropriation drop about $150 million in the past three years," Orlando said. "That's about a 25 percent state cut."

1. That's an unfortunate last name
Gork. In general, as a member of the press, she really shouldn't be wearing any team hat. But working for what I assume is the Arkansas flagship station, she is an absolute god damn fucking idiot for wearing a Florida hat.

2. Having read the station's wikipedia page
It said "Gork claimed that she grabbed the hat from her trunk during a rainstorm, and tried to cover the hat with tape to disguise the logo." Instead of covering the logo, maybe she should've just taken the damn hat off. Also the station is owned by Hog Radio, Inc. There's few things I hate more than Arkansas, one of them is Alabama, and the other is absolute dumbasses. This lady is a dumbass.

4. Not really
Not unlike working at Best Buy and wearing a Circuit City hat. Stupidity will get you fired 75 out of 100 times*.

*Completely made up number.

5. Reprimanded I might understand. But fired?
Severely cruel and mean-spirited... the height of "assholiness."

6. You could say it was the height of assholiness
to wear a Gator hat at a Hog press conference as a member of a Hog radio station. This idiot deserves all the misfortune that comes to her. I'm sure there are dozens of non-assholes lined up to take her place. She's some kind of stupid to think she can be a complete dipshit while on the job. BTW, I'm a Gator fan. Not that it matters.

7. What kind of society is this that we destroy a human being over a hat?
No one died. No one was hurt. No one was threatened.

I bet these assholes call themselves Christians too. Fuck them.

9. How is she destroyed?
It's called tact. She had none. You don't wear a competitor's logo and expect to remain as an employee. Her employer felt she could be easily replaced by someone as qualified and infinitely more tactful than this moron.

"No one died. No one was hurt. No one was threatened." You're right, none of these things happened to her.

13. I wish I had TWO Florida hats
I'd shit in one and cover it up with the other. Bobby Petrino is a complete PRICK though. Checkin with the Louisville people on this jerk. Louisville sucks but did not deserve that ass hole screwing them over.

15. Someone in her position should have the sense not to do this
and if she doesn't, she probably doesn't have enough sense to do her job, and should be let go.
