A-Rod Donates $200K To Mental Health Program in Wash. Heights
Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez hit one out of the park for troubled souls everywhere yesterday when he bravely declared that he sees therapists to deal with his personal demons.
The baseball superstar made the public admission about the help he's gotten for his private anguish after he and his wife, Cynthia, donated $200,000 to a mental health program at the Children's Aid Society in Washington Heights.

Oh yeah, I forgot, A-Rod is evil, but Republicans like Piazza and Schilling are great guys according to the folks here at DU.

8. Actually, as in many of these things, a public highly well-known figure..
acknowledging that psychotherapy isn't something to be ashamed of, is, as Master Card says, priceless.

11. Good point, I just ran some quick numbers.
Say A-Rod makes $25M per year. 200K is .008 of that (less than 1%).

Say you make 50K a year. .008 of that is $400.

Those are the numbers. I'm just saying... just to put it in perspective. A generous donation by A-Rod in any case.

That doesn't mean he isn't a nice guy personally.

Schilling is a GOP asshole.

5. LOL!
Well, it is cheap PR. Looks like some people buy it. Of course, A-Rod is not alone in practicing this technique.

I guess it's interesting. I suspect that we donate a far greater portion of our income each year than most athletes, yet I don't mention this to my closest friend, family member or neighbor. So why do these guys feel the need to advertise the fact?

6. Yeah? Hey, that's great!
Saint A-Rod also donated to the Bush-Cheney campaign fund (BUSH-CHENEY '04 (PRIMARY) INC.

Sooo, I guess if we judge the worth of various athletes depending on where they donate their money, that means..........

what, exactly, does that mean???

10. Good for him but if youre gonna play the republican card
Edited on Thu May-26-05 08:00 PM by JohnKleeb
here, A-Rod gave money to Bush too. Listen people like me and the Sox fans here hate the Yankees because they are our rivals, and while I have characticized the Yankees as evil in the past, its been in good fun. I could care less about a baseball player's personal politics, you know why I dislike A-Rod? its not that he gave 2000 dollars to Bush last year, its that he doesnt play the game I like to see it played, I don't like slapping at the ball because you know youre gonna be out, my new favorite baseball player is Miguel Tejada and you know what, I have no clue what Mr. Tejada's personal politics are and honestly I could care less, he plays the game I like to see it played, he's brought a great atmosphere to my team, and he is a student of the game's great history. So give it a rest will ya, I could care less about the politics of athletes, I got in to sports because of sports, politics comes second during sports for me. Please just give it a rest, I hate the Yankees but I dont hate people for rooting for them, people are gonna hate teams that have beaten them in the past in big games, its only natural.

12. Well said. I get tired of politics being dragged into this forum.
This a SPORTS forum, but some can't leave that aspect at the door.

Meanwhile, the Os are 4.5 on top of the AL East and still playing some great ball. I wish the Sox would snap out of their slump this weekend.

13. Thanks man
Seriously I get sick of fans of both teams in the Boston-NY Yankees rivalry, it goes both ways I will be fair but I get sick of them oh Schilling's a republican that means you're stupid for rooting for the Red Sox, not excusing Curt's asshole politics but if we're gonna applaud A-Rod and rightfully so for giving money to mental health services or whatever this was, Schilling does the same thing for Lou Gehrig's Disease. People are gonna call the Yankees evil, its mostly in good fun too, I dont really think the Yankees are agents of satan, people are gonna resent and love the Yankees, its simple as that, I didnt take it personally when IhatetheGOP refered to the Orioles as the BOEE, Baltimore Orioles Evil Empire, fans here have to stop taking everything so damn personally, some of us especially AL East fans who arent Yankee fans are gonna hte them, theres nothing that can be done about it, but very few of us are actually gonna think lower of someone because they are a Yankees fan, and the same goes for the Red Sox, I doubt many Yankee fans hate someone just because they are a Red Sox fan. People are gonna hate their rival team, its as simple as that, I guess one of the results of being a team like the Yankees is that youre gonna be two things to people and thats loved and hated, price thats ultimately paid when you've appeared in more than a third of the world series, I guess its like hate the sin love the sinner. I hate the Yankees but there are many Yankee fans I like despite it.

14. I agree Kleeb
except the part about A-Rod not playing the game well. A-Rod is the best player in baseball and not by a little bit. He's going to break Aaron's record one day and without cheating.
