You know George was so furious someone ahd to go, and it wasn't going to be Bellamy Road! Kevin pitched well yesterday...still think he's a putz, though.

:thumbsdown:

2. he's damned lucky he was throwing against Oakland . . .
if he'd loaded the bases with no outs in the second against, say, Boston, or Baltimore, they'd be backing the truck up this morning to haul him away . . .

5. I enjoy Yankee misfortune as much or more than anybody,...
but their pitching didn't look too bad this weekend. Mussina pitched a great game Saturday and Brown (though he flirted with disaster in the 2nd) had a respectable line for the day -- 5 hits, 1 walk, 4 Ks through 7 shutout innings.

We'll have to see if the Yankees have turned a corner or not--I hope not, I've been having WAY too much fun so far this season--but I think their problems are deeper and more systemic than a few bad outings from their starters.

The Sporting News (Ken Rosenthal) has a great column on the what New York's real problems are:
<snip>
"The Yankees' nucleus of Hall of Fame talent makes a return to contention possible, but the team has so many holes that it might not recover."

Read the whole column here:

8. I;m of the opinion it's all mental...
...they just don't have the desire, nor any leaders who are gonna make them get it back!

6. Send Al Leiter in his place...
...he's 1-3 with an 6.67 ERA. The rest of the Marlin's rotation is 15-5 with a 2.00 ERA. Gave up 8 runs in 4 innings to baseball's worst team (Rockies) yesterday. At 39 years old, it ain't looking good.

9. he's still a disaster statistically.
improves his record to an awesome 1-4, and "improves" his ERA to 6.39.

10. Yeah, but yesterday bought him some time...
...the question is Is this a real change, or just a blip?
