New York in February....
Edited on Tue May-25-10 04:30 PM by trumad
An Outdoor stadium in a state know for Jan-Feb blizzards.... too funny.

The Blizzard of 2006 was a nor'easter that began on the evening of February 11, 2006. It dumped heavy snow across the Northeast United States from Virginia to Maine through the early evening of February 12 and ended in Atlantic Canada on February 13. The major northeast cities from Baltimore to Boston received at least a foot of snow, with an all-time largest amount of 26.9 inches (68.3 cm) in New York City, the most since at least 1869, the start of record keeping.

White Out: The Storm of 2010
Blizzard-like winds causing enormous drifts in some parts
Updated 10:25 AM EDT, Thu, Feb 11, 2010

Snow blanketed the tri-state area today and many more inches of it were expected to fall this evening as blizzard warnings remained in effect throughout the region, prompting the closure of schools and cancellation of most flights out of the area.

NYC public schools will, however, be open on Thursday, Mayor Bloomberg said. Check other school closures.

"Sorry about that to all those who wanted a day off," Bloomberg said in a press conference late Wednesday, adding that after-school programs in city schools will also resume tomorrow.

The mayor also made a plea for blood donations, as the city's bloodbanks were hit hard by people staying home during the storm. Bloomberg also said the city was working overtime to clear streets and major thoroughfares by Thursday morning. The Department of Sanitation deployed about 1,600 plows, and 2,100 workers were on 12-hour shifts.

5. Exactly!
Even figure skaters are tougher than football players!

Figure skaters are total rink rats, and as such get my automatic approval. ;)

7. Every Super Bowl should be played in New Orleans. That's why they named it The Super Dome, Einstein.
Also NOLA is the best place to get drunk, laid and rolled all at the same time.

unlike, say, East Rutherford, N.J., which is somewhere off Exit 16W of the New Jersey Turnpike.

16. Big picture dude
If everything worked out perfect and it was simply cold---then fine...

But what if there is a blizzard? As proved above---it certainly happens in NY and it's happened the last couple of years.

So---what if there is a blizzard???? Do they delay the SB? How do fans travel into the area?

Believe me---if this scenario happens, a site like this will never again be picked.

Basically the NFL just rolled the dice.

4. As a player you bust your ass all season long...
and then you get to the "Big Game" where the outcome could be decided by a patch of ice.

Not right. Not smart.

6. What if you're a cold weather team?
Isn't it just as unfair to let a dome team play in a dome against a team that's built for defense and cold weather football and earned home field? Who cares if there's a patch of ice...both teams play in the same conditions. The team with the best record in the Super Bowl should get home field, plain and simple for me.

No one appreciates solid defense anymore, and it's damn shame. Players like Butkus, Lott, Nitschke, Deacon Jones....these guys would be fined every week in this watered down NFL of today. These are some of the best players to ever play the game, but the NFL thinks defense is a bad thing now.

9. How many games a year are really played in inclement weather?
I mean below freezing in sleet and/or snow? A handful, at most. The concept of "cold-weather" team is passe -- made so by the proliferation of domed stadiums and temperate climate cities new to the league in the last 30 years. A team that's built to play just for cold weather isn;t going to make it.

I love defense. But I also love offense. A Super Bowl full of field goals is a boring Super Bowl.

That should create enough mud to satisfy everyone -- and allow for some scoring too

Super Bowl game. It is more than just the game. Why are there essentially NO bowl games scheduled in COLD weather? Because going to a warm climate is a REWARD to the team and its fans.

The fucking douches running the NFL really fucked up.

Edited to add: At least we won't have to worry about a "wardrobe malfunction"! Unless a performers parka catches fire.

28. Umm actually those two blizzards you cited
Are exceptions to the rule. NY/NJ that part anyway are close enough to the water that they actually DON'T get much snow during the winter. This was the first time in 35 plus years of life in DC (which actually has a snowier climate than NY believe it or not)that I was "snowed in" during the SB. The odds of a NY SB having a white out is low...In fact the odds are just as likely that you will have sunny and 50 degree weather as a snowstorm. Lets stop the bitching okay? Cold likely? Snow? Not as likely.

30. We in DC get the two foot snowfalls every couple of years. But, who cares? They're in Manhattan!
They'll find something to do.

Bad weather games get higher ratings than perfect weather games.

If a few fancy pants millionaires choose not to go to a game in bad weather, maybe they'll give their tickets to someone who wants to go. Maybe a real fan.
