WALTERBORO, S.C. — Norman Hand, a former National Football League defensive tackle, died after collapsing at his South Carolina home yesterday.
Richard Harvey, the coroner in Colleton County, said Mr. Hand, 37, died about 90 minutes later. An autopsy is planned.
He said Mr. Hand’s family was with him when he died.
Mr. Hand’s 10-year NFL career included playing stints with the Dolphins, Saints, Chargers, Seahawks, and Giants. Mr. Hand, who had 22 1/2 career sacks, was drafted in the fifth round by the Dolphins in 1995 after playing at Mississippi.
