Damn! Skankees about to climb out of the cellar!
Tampa Bay was trounced, and Spankees have come from behind to tie it--I have this feeling (nausea) that they'll pull it out.

In lighter news, Red Sox winning handily!

I am pissed at those jerks for taking two of three from us. Orioles win, 19-9.
BTW Hattenburg is up for the A's with the bases loaded with only one out in the Yanks game.

20. I can be fairly generous sports-wise these days now that I have lived
to see the Red Sox win it all. Seriously, I never thought they would--my father is 85 and last year was his first Sox victory! Anyway, as long as it ain't the skankees, I say good luck to any team!

over the years because hey, we've had our hopes and dreams dashed by the meanies from the bronx too many itmes.

22. They turned into America's team last year--at least for the series--
seems like everyone knew of the team's history and wanted them to FINALLY win!

Oh well, sleep peacefully knowing your team won, and evil was thwarted for another night.

Dobrou noc!

5. his ERA nearly doubled
:wow: You know I know part of why Mussina left Baltimore for NY is that the Yanks offered him a no trade clasue or whatever but I know ole Moose wanted to win 20 games at least once, or get his Cy Young, or win a world series, and here we are 4 years later, and the Orioles have a better shot of getting to the series than the Yankees, oh god, Moose, you so silly.

26. let's not be too hard on Rivera . . . he was helped by three errors . . .
in that inning . . . one each by Martinez, Jeter, and A-Rod . . . only one of those runs was earned . . . still, he seems to have lost a lot this year . . . he didn't pitch all winter, and I'm beginning to think that he just hasn't pitched enough to get into form . . . whatever the reason, something is very, very wrong in Yankeeland . . .

this loss had to be particularly disheartening, since they were back home and had managed to come from behind to tie the score . . . with A-Rod at the plate, Posada made a dumb baserunning mistake and ended the inning with two men on . . . then they went on to lose in extra innings with their star closer on the mound . . . because of errots by their star infielders . . . that HAS to be depressing . . .

George's horse runs tomorrow, so he'll be able to return his attention back to the Yanks . . . he won't go after Torre, and going after the coaches makes no sense since the problem is the composition of the team, which he's largely responsible for . . . my guess is that he'll start lambasting individual players in public . . . just like he did when this same scenario played out in the 80s . . . it wasn't solved until he turned the decision-making over to the baseball people, led by Gene Michael . . . that's what's going to have to happen again for them to rebuild the team . . . it's gonna take a decade or more, imo, because right now they're saddled with ridiculous contracts and have no minor leaguers to trade for anyone that could help them . . .

this isn't a good team playing badly . . . this is a bad team . . .

But hey, the Mets are winning so i'm happy for Willie. :)

That night was one of the worst for me...
My parents were in Barcelona on business, and I was home alone to witness the 19-8 trouncing. I left messages on my dads answering machine to update him on the game, but by the end, I was sobbing uncontrollably in my sleeping bag. Of course, I watched every out, but I was absolutely miserable.

Oh how our fortunes changed!

31. Never underestimate how much any sport is mental...
...The Angels fell apart in the ALCS in '86, allowing the Sox to get to the Series--took the Angeles about 16 years to recover!

32. Ahh I know it
We havent been back to the playoffs since the 97 ACLS, it didnt go to seven games but what makes it all so heartbreaking is that all the four losses in that series were by one run.
