1. "The rubber game"
Bridge has not one fucking thing to do with baseball!

Wait. Except umpires are like dummies.

2. Thanking Jesus for your victory
Edited on Mon May-10-10 06:55 PM by Auggie
Forget about the countless hours spent training. Jesus gave you the edge. Right.

Runner up: "(Said athlete) is a role model". According to.... who? The ratings whore media, that's who. I'll decide for myself who my role models are. And it won't be just because some millionaire can dunk a basketball.

Second runner up: Kissing the trophy. Kiss your wife. Kiss your kid. Kiss your opponent. Kiss some butt. Don't kiss the trophy.

Favorite cliches? I'll have to think about that.

one edit: Not a reply to El Supremo -- just posted in the wrong place

I doubt anyone will ever be able to approach its greatness. But we can try.

Adversity is getting your leg blown off by a land mine, not having a sore hamstring.

9. "This puts it all in perspective"
After a death or some other disaster. Hey numbnuts announcer or athlete, I have had it all in perspective the entire time. Sports is a diversion to us "regular" folks out here and we have lives beyond sports.

11. Least: She's carrying the team on her back.
Favorite: "We have to play within ourselves." I love it because it captures truths about biology, physics, psychology, and means absolutely nothing. If somebody learns to play outside themselves, that will be a pretty good story.

15. The dreaded "courageous performance."
Ladies and gentlemen, I like watching sports but I do not play. Someone explain to me how much "courage" it takes to play a freaking game. And then watch a firefighter go through an average day. How much of a hero is LeBron James because he's physically gifted?

Courageous, gutsy, heroic multimillionaires. Please.
