He wondered what would happen if the Duke men played the UConn women.

The Duke men would win, but it got me wondering.

Could the UConn women beat a men's team?

Last year I would have said no, but now I'm not so sure.

I don't think they'd be a match for a Division I men's team, but, based on how they played this year, they might be able to knock off a couple of Division II or III men's teams.

Thoughts?

Reedited for clarity

1. I don't think they'd win against any men's team...but they would have
the best chance of any women's team because they are so quick...it's like the other women's teams are playing a completely different game.

2. Probably not. The ODU '80 team with Lieberman, Nissen and Donovan was also
really REALLY good, but they do not have the physical beef inside to beat men.

Nissen was/is 6'5" and Donovan is 6'8". I saw them play the Soviet national team. Amazin' game.

5. I don't think they'd be able to beat any D1 mens teams.
Their 2 big advantages in the women's game are size and speed, and they wouldn't match up well against any D1 mens team. I wouldn't even like their chances against many of the D2 men's teams, though I think they might be competitive against some the D3 teams. Tina Charles, a top-flight center, is 6'4", which would probably be undersized for even a forward in D2 ball, and I'm not sure they would have sufficient muscle to make up for this either. With guards all under 6' and forwards topping out at 6'2", I think they'd be too undersized and would have serious issues in the paint.

I'm a big UConn fan, but the men's game and the women's game are 2 completely different animals.
