2. It's athletic. And it's an exhibition, but the judging is so unpredictable.

To me, it's not a sport.

3. It's not that it is not a sport
It's just that it is not entertaining.

5. I take it you consider golfing a sport?
Can there be anything more mind-numbing than watching golf on TV?

16. Golf, too, is a sport
but a mindbogglingly boring one to watch. There isn't even a drug that makes golf entertaining.

17. What makes golf a sport rather than a game?
Golf is little more than lawn darts sans the risk of having your eye taken out. How many guys who play golf could even run around the block without having a coronary? They want to be athletes but without the mess, the dirt, the sweat and they get to wear nice clothes and hit the bar after a few rounds on manicured greens -- after they park the cart, of course, because it's too much like work to carry your own clubs. Golf is a game that gives millions of non-athletic men the illusion that they are actually participating in a sport.

18. To me sport are about competition
My definition is that sports are events where hard-work and mastery of a small set of skills is more of a determinant than luck. Usually, this involves having excellent muscle memory and a years of practice before one is even able to play with the best.

22. Congratulations on perfecting the simpleton view of golf
That sport has so many diabolical variables and athletic/mental requirements it's maddening. Literally every shot is subject to extreme variance depending on how the ball lies, let alone impositions like wind, trees, and slope.

The top pros are so absurdly high caliber they make it look like point and shoot, and that translates to couch potato goofs dismissing it as not a sport. Only an idiot compares it to darts or chess. In fact, there is no greater idiocy barometer on the planet. The translation between knowing what you have to do and swinging that club back to the precise millimeter necessity is among the most difficult requirements in all of sports.

Notice that virtually every top athlete is addicted to golf. They are in awe of Tiger exponentially more than a Michael Jordan, for example, because they understand how ridiculously difficult it is to master golf.

If millions of men play touch football or pick up basketball, or run around the neighborhood, slowly and poorly, does that make them athletes? Your final sentence is laughable. I had a few friends in school who could run and/or jump but they were hopeless at anything requiring touch or skill or true athletic ability.

23. Don't get to worked up with these types of posts.
First off... these posts are usually written by non-athletes---period.

No decent athlete would ever post such tripe---why? because of exactly what you posted above.

Jelly Donuts who post this shit couldn't hit 50 yards with a Big Bertha one wood.

8. Of course it is...if it isn't, boxing isn't either, and that judging
can be far more subjective.

25. That's Why I Seldom Watch Anymore
I've gotten to the point where i don't care for any sport (by any definition) where i don't know who won without an "expert" having to tell me.

When a baseball game ends 4 to 2, i know who won without anybody telling me. Same with b-ball and football. Or golf, or tennis, or whatever.

And, the more subjective the judging, the worse it gets. Although, at least in boxing, we all know who wins when one guy ends up out on his back.
