Report: Lane Kiffin gets commitment from 7th-grade QB

9:54 pm February 4, 2010, by AJC

One day after pulling together one of the top-ranked recruiting classes in the nation, USC coach Lane Kiffin was already looking further down road, like way down the road.

According the Delaware News Journal, Kiffin coaxed a verbal commitment out of 13-year-old quarterback David Stills Thursday night.

“I’m very excited but I was very, very nervous,” the seventh-grader told the News Journal about talking to Kiffin over the phone. “It was very cool but my heart was beating so fast, and I was scared. But after it was over, I was so excited and pumped.”

I hate Lane Kiffin.

10. No Joke
This is no joke. The kid and his father were on ABC Good Morning America Weekend. They both confirmed that the kid had given a verbal commitment to USC. Apparently, the kid had always wanted to go to USC. According to the story USC coach Lane Kiffin found the kid over the internet. There were clips of the kid passing the ball and playing in games on the internet. Kiffin saw the clips and contacted the family. As you can tell the link below is to GMA Weekend. There is a video of the interview at the website.

5. 'Cause that true freshman QB worked out so well for them
:sarcasm:

On the bright side, by the time this kid gets to college, USC may be off probation!

8. If Kiffin stays the full year, USC will NEVER get off
probation...with Carroll they SHOULD have at least 20 years, Kiffin will double that his first month.

9. Barkley averaged 7.8 YPPA
Which is terrific. For a true freshman, it's almost unheard of. Only the bar stool goofs attributed USC's decline to Barkley. The defense was young and vulnerable, massive drop off in every category.

Best of luck to anyone who thinks USC faces severe sanctions.

7. Now that he's committed to USC, does that mean he can start taking money
Edited on Fri Feb-05-10 01:45 PM by hughee99
now? Or does he have to wait until he starts going to USC until he and his family members start getting cash and gifts from "friends".

I often hear or read stories of scouts looking at kids in Junior High with scholarship offers. This is far from the first I've heard of this and not the only sport either. Baseball and basketball come to mind.

13. And where will Kiffin be by the time this kid gets out of high school?
Is the commitment to USC or the coach?

(actually, the commitment is probably to getting on TV at age 13...)

14. You hate him because Wisconsin didn't get to the kid first
All this jealousy in this thread just tells me USC is still feared.
