David Wells--after getting off to a slow start this season,...
is starting to find his groove.
He shut out the red-hot Orioles through 8 innings--scattering 3 hits, 1 walk, 5 Ks.

Sox win! :)

1. Bummer but a nice outing
Hopefully, they'll do better tommorow against Schilling? too bad Schilling's name isnt Randy Johnson since we got a history of beating him well. Is this series a two gamer or three gamer?

3. Schilling pitched Monday against Toronto and he got...
pretty well hammered (although the the Sox mangaed to win it) I think it'll be Clement tomorrow.

It's only a two game set, but the Os come to Fenway for three games starting Monday.

4. If I didnt have school, I would stay in town for that
I am going up to Boston for the weekend for the big ass meet up, we're having, Pitt invited me to a monday game but I cant make it since I have school and my internship that monday. I can't wait to see Boston though. I hope the Orioles can come back to take the game tommorow, splitting a series with the series champion is nothing to be ashamed of. Chen had another pretty decent outting though tonight was his worst, well after you hold the Yanks to one and two runs in games, I guess its pretty hard to top.

7. Chen looked very good through the early innings. I thought it ...
would end up being a pitching duel, but the Sox got to him in the 6th with Varitek's 3 run homer.
There's no way I would take Baltimore for granted, they've been too hot lately, although the Sox were able to cool off Brian Roberts at least for the night.

8. Brian already has more homeruns these first two weeks
than his career high. A reason why I think Wells may have been able to cool him off is because Brian is a better hitter lefty than righty. Yeah they have been on fire lately with the bats. YEah I thought Chen would duel but he like all pitchers is human and Varitek I guess took advantage.

2. Wells is a good pitcher
but his back can go out at any time. That is the risk.

5. Yeah, I guess he's had a history of back problems. We'll have...
to keep our fingers crossed that he stays healthy.
He looked pretty good tonight, pinpoint control, a real good change-up and his splitter was working---lot of ground ball outs.

6. the thing with him
is that he doesn't strike guys out and gets lots of flyballs. Could be trouble at Fenway, but he's a good pitcher. Should be interesting to see how he fits.

18. Thanks for the info
I have him on my Fantasy Baseball team. Of course, he is one who is close to be released if he does not produce.

10. We still have a long season ahead of us, but it's nice...
to see that the doom-and-despair crowd weren't entirely right about the "disastrous" decision to sign a 41 yr. old ex-Yankee as one of our key starters.

At least, it looks like he might have a few good games left in him. ;)

11. My inital reaction when they signed him was "what the..."
But I figured Theo and the rest knew better than I. It was his first two disastrous starts that started me worrying!

12. Yeah, sometimes it's hard to trust that Theo & Co. know...
what they're doing, especially when your instincts tell you otherwise.

A little over a year ago I was cursing the Sox management's collective parentage for having flirted with A-Rod and then letting him get snatched up by the Yankees. Now --- well, let's just say that seeing A-Rod in pinstripes doesn't seem like the unmitigated disaster it did a year ago.

16. I'd say seeing A-Rod in pinstripes is an absolute miracle!
Wonder how long they'll keep him?

13. He finally worked into mid-season drinking form
Edited on Thu Apr-21-05 11:37 AM by underpants
It probably took him a while to find the right bar in Boston.

14. He definitely has a physique that qualifies him for a centerfold spread...
in "Couch Potato Monthly", but he's pretty agile for a 'big-boned' guy.

Last night, on a bunt attempt up the first base line, he had to charge the ball, bare-hand it, pivot 270 degrees and fire to first. He did it with the grace of a shortstop, something I had to see a couple of times on replay to fully appreciate.

Whatever his 'workout regimen' entails, it seems to work for him. :)

15. Some buddies of mine said that a couple of weeks ago
Just a few years ago Wells could supposedly still dunk a basketball.

He actually is a good athlete.

17. I understand your point.
I just don't think the word "groove" belongs in the same sentence as "David Wells."

:D
