Shanahan to the Redskins???
Thats the rumor right now. Reports that he is in discussions to become the next head coach.

Pleeeaaase be true, though Gruden wouldnt be so bad.

And to those who think we shouldnt be going for the high profile signings like we usually do, I say we tried the unproven, and that failed miserably.

2. I actually would, at this point, because of Campbell, kind of like them to keep Zorn.
I whole new system would jerk Campbell around again.

5. Ive thought about it, but then I realize how bad Zorn is at his job.
It would be more important to keep Sherm Lewis than Zorn for your reasons. I have so many issues with Zorn and his decisions in game and during the week that make me want him out of here now. For example. He is in charge of player personnel decisions. Why was Randel El still back returning punts? It was because of Zorn and thats the kind of decision making he has been known for.

6. Yeah, I've thought about that too. But Cerrato was to blame for not getting some
back up offensive linemen over the off season. How incredibly stupid was that? The team played great last year until the injuries to the O line.

I'm not a big fan of Zorn, so I could be talked into ditching him.

11. However, he is a restricted free agent and many Skins fans hope they resign him
Build the oline, dont draft a QB in the first round.

13. living in TB, i've witnessed his lunacy up close.
57-55 reg season record (that would have been worse w/o Kiffin as his DC) over 7 seasons, zero playoff wins, musical chairs at QB, fired (and rightly so).

the college and NFL are such different games, i'm not going to write-off Wies for his work at ND.

22. That appears to be the common belief among Tampa Bay fans
In 06-08 I was good friends with a guy from Lakeland, Fl. He is a fan of the Magic, Gators, and Buccaneers.

Anyways this was 2006 and I mentioned Gruden and that he won a Super Bowl for Tampa. I can't quite remember the conversation but he said Dungy built that team and that he was making them worse in the years after. He wanted him gone in '06, so two years later he was.

24. They were 9-7 the year Dungy left. The next year with Gruden they were 12-4
And won the super bowl. You cant tell me he didnt do didley. And he did have success with the raiders too. A "tuck" away from a SB there too.

9. Portis in 2 years under Shannahan - 5.5 YPC
Also Gary Kubiak was the O-Coordinator at the time but that 5.5 YPC should be encouraging if you do get Shannahan.

12. Portis isnt some 23 year old kid anymore though.
He was productive here for a few years, but I really think he has hit that wall that many RB's do around the age of 30, especially with the amount of carries he's gotten as a Redskin.

15. I remember reading the year after the trade
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 12:33 PM by JonLP24
Portis numbers were up in a zone blocking but when he went to Washington, at the time they used a man to man blocking scheme and his numbers went down while Denver had two backs(Mike Anderson & Tatum Bell) get nearly 1,000 yards a piece. Portis still had nearly 1,500 years 2 years ago and if Shannahan brings the same style of play I think his numbers will go up. It was more about the scheme then the back. Even Rueben Droughns a full back was plugged in as a running back and gained over 1,000 yards.

21. Portis will not be back next year. Besides their OL needs alot of help, if
they plan on having a 1000 yd back.

26. I don't understand, why Campbell?
You can tell by the numbers he is improving and this season is his best. In fact he has 7.4 YPPA this year which is very good at this point in the season. 7 or higher is the number you want for a quarterback. Also aside from free agency(who knows here) I don't feel they can pick up a better QB and if they pick one from a draft. If they do I can't see one improving at a faster rate then Campbell.

14. Shanyhan is opening a big fancy restaurant near me soon. I don't think he's going anywhere.
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 12:53 PM by El Supremo
Besides being washed up as a coach. He never was any good. And those two Super Bowls were won by Elway's play calling and Terrill Davis' running.

And his continuing multi million dollar contract... and his new multi million dollar home. He's just fishing to feed his ego.

18. This could be just a negotiating ploy.
Threatening to sign Shanahan to get Gruden to put his name on a contract.

Gruden is still being paid around $5 million a year by the Bucs on top of what he's making at ESPN. Overall he's suppose to be making around $8 million a year. The skins may be trying to pressure him into signing for less than he's making at the moment.
