Women in the NBA? Commissioner Stern thinks so.
espn.com, 12-5-09

CLEVELAND -- NBA commissioner David Stern said in an interview with Sports Illustrated he believes a woman could be playing in the league at some point in the next decade.

Cavaliers forward LeBron James isn't so sure. The reigning NBA MVP was asked about Stern's comments prior to the Bulls-Cavaliers game on Friday night.
"Ten years?" James asked. "That's, like, right around the corner. 10 years, I'll be 34. I'll still be in the NBA. I think 10 years is pushing it, honestly."

"I love all sports," he continued. "I love watching the girls, especially in the Olympics. They're wonderful in the WNBA. They're great. It's a lot of great players. But 10 years, that's pushing it. I think that's pushing it."

Cavaliers forward Anthony Parker, whose sister, Candace, is perhaps the top women's player in the world, agreed with James. "First of all, I don't see why, other than to say a woman can do it," he said. "But for long term? No way. My sister is a good player and has great skill, but as far as making an NBA roster? No. She's 6-4, which is the average height of a shooting guard. I'm never going to say never. "I just hope I live to see it."

1. Candace Parker was the first WNBA player to come to mind
I'm definately a big fan and even saw her very first pro debut in the WNBA against the Phoenix Mercury where they were throwing her double and triple teams and they still couldn't stop her. Her and Anquan Boldin first regular season games was the best pro debuts I ever watched live. In the WNBA she plays more like a forward at 6'4" which is the average guard size in the NBA so that may not translate well. She is versatile but more of a forward then any position.

Diana Taurasi won this year's MVP award so she is really good too and is well known, more so when she played for UConn but won the WNBA title with the Mercury this year. I say if anyone no matter what gender has the skill level to play at a NBA level should be afforded the opportunity.

2. There's no way
the women would get muscled around. What is the NBA going to do, change the rules...maybe call sexual harassment fouls?

Stern is a jerk..

9. Not going to happen...this from someone who often enjoys watching
the ladies play more so than the men...they still play defense, and the games aren't fixed. Lots of talent in the WNBA, but the gap is still too wide.
