Which branch of the Armed Forces will Tim Tebow join in the spring?
He is a macho christian conservative guy. No doubt he wants to thank his country for the blessings bestowed upon him for living in a "Christian" Nation by fighting for its continued freedom. After all, that is what ALL Christians do, right?

I don't want to hear from any of you skeptics who say tim will join the NFL and make millions instead of joining our men and women in uniform in Afghanistan. How could you be so shallow?

Please share this with all the Christian ministries in the universe urging Tim to DO THE RIGHT THING!

14. "Cannot play in cold weather"?
You want them to move their games to Canada? What about the ACC, Conference USA, Pac 10, and the other conferences that play in warmer climates? Do you want to move all the bowl games to North Dakota, Minnesota, and Montana? That would go over great with the hundreds of thousands of football fans who flock to Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Arizona, Texas, and California for bowl games in warm weather. I've attended bowl games, and the northern fans from cold climates absolutely love going south and southwest for some fun, sun, golf, and football during a miserable time of the year weather-wise.

I played football in all kinds of weather in Jr high school and high school. I would much rather play in 25-degree weather than 95-degree weather. Ever wonder why teams like Wisconsin, Minnesota, Syracuse, Iowa, and such almost never venture into SEC country for a late-August or early-September game? I've seen USC, UCLA, Arizona State, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Kansas State, Oregon State, and others do it, but rarely see the cold-weather schools try it. That's because it's almost impossible for them to get acclimated to such a dramatic increase in heat and humidity. Going from 50 degrees in Knoxville, Tennessee to 25 degrees in Iowa City, Iowa is much more manageable. The hundreds of SEC players who play in NFL stadiums during December and January adapt just fine. The cold weather excuse holds no water.

15. Good to have you back, Elwood
Two things. The Big Ten's bowl games are ALWAYS away games. Second thing. Try practicing in a bubble for a month then (otherwise live in a frigid place) move down to a hot & humid clime a week or so before the game. It ain't as easy as it looks. And vice-versa. Other than that, good post. We Iowans ENJOY getting the fuck out of here if just for a coupla' days.

16. It's not that hot and humid in the south during bowl season,
Edited on Mon Nov-30-09 09:38 PM by Elwood P Dowd
with the possible exception of Miami. Come down in September though, and you will gasp for breath at times. The Big Ten teams usually come down about 8-10 days in advance for the Florida bowls, plus there have been many times where it was barely 60 degrees at these games.

Most bowl games are away games for most teams. There are exceptions, like USC playing in the Rose Bowl or LSU playing in the Sugar Bowl or Florida playing in one of the Florida bowls.

The whole idea of bowl games began as a reward for the players and fans for a winning season. Back in the day, bowl games didn't even count on your season record. It was a no-brainer that these games were played in attractive locals with warm weather. It wouldn't be much of a reward for the Iowa players and fans to spend a week in Cleveland shoveling snow and freezing your ass off after a 9-win season.

Edit to add: I always liked Iowa, especially the uniforms. Don't ever let them ruin them with black socks/tape like so many other schools, and don't try and change them with all this Nike crap taking over college football.

17. Funny, Elwood.
The exact instance I'm thinking of is the 2003 Orange Bowl against USC. A very humid night. We were gassed. But no excuse. Ferentz visited Barry Alverez the next summer on how to prep for a Bowl game. The results show. 3-1 against the SEC, since. I'll be honest.
It'll blow my whole cover. But, I'm just trying to buy some time until the Big Ten is back on top. The Bowls are fair. I mean who wouldn't want to play on a sunny and 75 degree day?!? It would be interesting, however, to see a play-off to see how the warm weather teams would fare in the cold of late December, early January. Never happen, though. $$$$$$$$. BTW. No plans on changing our uniforms. I like them, myself.

18. Mississippi State and Texas A&M played in a blizzard once.
Remember the Independence Bowl a few years ago in Shreveport, Louisiana. There must have been 8 inches of snow on the field when that game was over.

21. Trust me, it can be as hot in Michigan, Illinois, and Iowa in late August/early Sept
as it is in the South. Northern teams get hit twice, by hot, humid weather at the beginning of the season and frigid, below freezing temperatures at the end. The difference is those teams have to prepare to play in both while most Southern teams don't.

7. In the Navy
In the navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the navy
Come on now, people, make a stand
In the navy, in the navy
Can't you see we need a hand
In the navy
Come on, protect the motherland
In the navy
Come on and join your fellow man
In the navy
Come on people, and make a stand
In the navy, in the navy, in the navy (in the navy)

11. What evidence do you have of his politics? I've never heard him make a single political statement.
his religion is not mine and I think, increasingly, Southern Christianity is essentially a Hate Group like the Klan or the old American Nazi Party. But this kid is a nice kid and has never ever made a political comment. You should chose another target, IMO. There are loads of Christian haters out there. This guy is not one of them.

12. Good point
But there are few doubts as to what his politics likely are, and people such as Florida's governor speculate that he has a future in politics:

Tebow's public speaking on behalf of his faith has allowed him to polish his leadership and oratory skills. Some say a career in politics awaits him when he's done playing football, if he wants it.

"We've talked about it a little bit," Crist said. "I'd be more than honored to try to help him in some small way. Our state and our nation needs great leaders like him."

There's also this, reported by a current Florida student:

Crist asked Tebow if he was interested in a political career.

“That might be a possibility,” Tebow said, adding that he is a Republican. But for now, Tebow said he is interested in completing his degree in family, youth and community sciences that will help him develop a career focused on working with nonprofit groups and underprivileged youth in addition to whatever his football future holds.

“That’s good stuff,” Crist told him.

There's also no public record I'm aware of on his views about the wars, and he did decline to endorse presidential candidates last year. So yeah, I guess it's a bit unfair to mock his politics since he's really only been outspoken about his faith and not telling us Jesus votes R

22. Why is Crist guiding him, why is an elderly, dirty old closeted homosexual
taking an interest in a young, good-looking, muscular young man? I'm stumped. Maybe Crist's beard can inform him.
