Peta demands Georgia Bulldogs American football team replace dead mascot with robot
Source: Daily Telegraph

The Georgia Bulldogs’ mascot, Uga the Seventh, recently died, aged four, of a congenital heart condition. His predecessor Uga the Sixth died of a similar complaint the year before.

Peta’s Georgia chapter have asked them to make Uga the Eighth out of servos and wires, saying bulldogs are, despite reputation, rather feeble, inbred creatures, and simply breeding them is inherently cruel.

In a statement, the group said: “Peta has asked the school's athletic director, Damon M Evans, to replace the mascot with an animatronic dog - or to rely solely on a costumed mascot - instead of using another real bulldog.

“Bulldogs are prone to breathing difficulties, hip dysplasia, heart disorders, and other congenital ailments, and acquiring a dog from a breeder perpetuates the animal overpopulation crisis while causing another dog waiting in an animal shelter to be condemned to death.”

2. Right here.
Lifelong Jackets fan. It's been tough but fun pushing the black and gold since most of the mindless dolts around here naturally gravitate toward the "Dawgs" (with an embellished southern-drawl). The shoe is on the other foot this year. UGA wants to play spoiler but I'm thinking the Jackets have too much. Their running game is virtually unstoppable! BCS bid baby!

4. Once again, PETA proves they're all about publicity
Getting a shelter dog rather than going through a breeder would be a fine suggestion. But this goofy animatronic idea is all about getting media coverage.

After all, if getting a dog from a breeder condemns to death "another dog waiting in an animal shelter" doesn't using a robot dog do exactly the same thing?

They set back their own cause with this kind of logic. Seriously, nothing makes me less sympathetic to concerns about animal welfare than when I hear them voiced PETA-style.

6. They don't believe dogs should even exist.

PETA is nothing but an extremist organization peddled as an animal welfare group. PETA is nothing of the kind; animal domestication is likened to slavery by this group (chief nutjob and co-founder of PETA Ingrid Newkirk IS such an extremist who thinks ALL animals should be out in the wild).

Never believe any of their goals are benign or that their goals have a concern for animal welfare. They believe in animal RIGHTS, which cannot exist because "rights" happen to be a human construct. Nobody should give a dime to that outfit or to HSUS, which has a similar anti-animal domestication philosophy.
