1. This is the one good thing about the YES Network...they show this game
over and over and over.

4. But, They Picked The Wrong Hero
Gerard Phelan should have the hero. Flutie just flung it up there. Phelan showed unbelievable concentration as that ball flew through all those hands and still caught it.

10. That's an unbelievable statement
Have you ever watched the play? Next time, check where the ball was when it left Flutie's hands. Very few QBs could even launch it that far, let alone accurately. Flutie has actually never been given enough credit for the play. Miami players stopped because it seemed unthinkable the ball could travel that far. Phelan made a nice catch but it's like crediting the jockey for hanging on.

5. I remember it well.
We were having dinner in a restaurant and I could see the game on the tv in the bar. I remember actually standing up to watch that pass that seemed like it took forever to get to Phelan. I was not the only one paying attention. Others cheered.

Granted this was in metro Boston and we're a big BC family. But it was the greatest college football finish I have ever seen.

6. It's also the 25th anniversary of the great Terrapin comeback vs Miami
Losing 31-0 at halftime, Frank Reich engineered an in incredible comeback, ending in a 41-40 Terp victory. The second greatest game ever played.

18. It's coming back to me-Did Houston do something really stupid
in that game? Was someone fired because of the loss?

9. I believe that's called "The Pushoff" and
not "the Hail Mary."

11. Whatever
Thanks, Mad, for nailing it.

Staubach said he said to himself "Hail Mary" and threw the ball up for grabs. Thus, the "Hail Mary." The most miraculous playoff win in NFL history.

14. If the Vikings weren't so consistently miserable in the playoffs, I'd agree. nt

15. Nice post, Bud Grant.
Not buying it though!

The Hail Mary was from Staubach to Pearson!
