There is justice! Greinke wins Cy Young!
Zack Greinke wins American League Cy Young award
By SAM MELLINGER
The Kansas City Star

Zack Greinke’s sweep of the major awards is complete after being named the American League Cy Young winner by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Greinke won with 25 of 28 first-place votes, and 134 points, easily beating runner-up Felix Hernandez of Seattle, who received two first-place votes and 80 points. Detroit’s Justin Verlander received the other first-place vote.

Greinke went 16-8 with a 2.16 ERA and 242 strikeouts in 229 1/3 innings, his breakout season becoming a needed point of pride in an otherwise dreadful Royals season. His ERA was more than a third of a run better than Hernandez, who finished second, and the AL’s best mark since Pedro Martinez in 2000.

There had been some fear among Royals fans that Greinke’s relatively low win total __ he was three behind the league co-leaders, and 16 is the fewest wins for any starting pitcher named the AL Cy Young winner __ but his individual brilliance outweighed the team’s disappointment....

2. Surprising that someone from the midwest won the award, given the extreme
East Coast Yankee/Red Sox bias.

When will he be joining the yankee$?

5. I'd like to see the Pirates become relevant again, also!
Maybe another Pirates-Orioles World Series!

I remember watching both of those World Series. Great way to start and finish the decade.

12. I loved the '79 Series
Orioles up 3-1 in games. Their announcer begins to gloat by comparing them to the '27 Yankees. You know the rest. At the end, when all Oriole hope was lost, the by now bitter announcer began referring to the city of Pittsburg as a filthy hellhole.

8. Boo!
He didn't win his last game, and that kept the Tigers from winning. So boo on him.

13. Actually, the Tigers and Twins were neck and neck much of the season
But Greinke should have won that game.

I did want Verlander to win it.

14. On Sept 6...Tigers were 7 games up
can't blame Greinke... Twins played well and the Tigers flat out choked.

15. They were, but that 7-game lead was unusual
most of the season they were just a couple of games up (or even tied once).

I was counting on Greinke to win that game!!!!!!
