The catch isn't made until the receiver gains possession. Then he also gets foward progress. In this case, the receiver initially bobbles the ball. That looks like a good spot. The referee knew what that spot meant. That's probably why he had his hands on his hips. He wasn't comfortable with it.

Also field goal attempts from inside the 5 are nearly 100% successful, about 98% or 99% so MJD greatly improved his team's chance of winning y that decision.

Basically the Jaguars have a greater chance of failing the two pointer, the Jets driving down the field to score a winning TD then the Jaguars of missing a chip shot.
