Gruden to coach Notre Dame in 2010??
Edited on Thu Nov-12-09 11:17 AM by madinmaryland
Though there's no specific evidence (yet) that former Raiders and Bucs coach Jon Gruden will be leaving the Monday Night Football booth and returning to the sidelines, there's a growing sense among league and industry insiders that Gruden will be returning to work as a head coach in 2010. Already, rumors are linking him (again) to the Notre Dame job. The fact that Gruden and Irish coach Charlie Weis are both represented by Bob LaMonte could make the swap a little delicate, to say the least. Besides, few believe that Gruden has the desire (or the patience) to work with college-level quarterbacks.

2. I doubt he has the patience to work with college players.
He didn't put any faith in rookies in the pro's and has a terrible record for drafting and developing young players. I can't imagine him in a college environment but that may be all he can get after his stint in Tampa.

4. Gotta agree with you on that one.
He took a team built by Tony Dungy to the big dance, and had the total luck to face his former team - who were still using the same playcalls and signals that he had been using with them. The Bucs declined every year since, as it became more and more Gruden's team.

5. He's definitely overrated. He did take Oakland to the SB, but I don't
recall if that was his team, though I think Davis was quite as senile as he is now. The Tampa team was basically Dungy's team.

6. Yeah, and Dungheap couldn't get them there...
A lot of the decline was Gruden took an older team to the SB...I don't think he's over-rated...you're all just haters. :P

8. Gruden sucks!
If you go back and look at the record for every year the Bucs went to the playoffs during Gruden's tenure you'll see that it was the defense that carried the team. Every year the defense fell off the Bucs record went into the toilet. He never produced an offense that was in the top 10 while he was with the Bucs.

He only wanted an experienced QB to run his offense but he couldn't get along with any of the QB's he was able to sign. The same for his receivers. He couldn't get along with Keshawn Johnson, Keenan McCardell, Joe Jurevicius, Michael Clayton and eventually even Joey Galloway.

On top of that he has a terrible draft record. He couldn't be bothered to draft and develop a QB. Without checking I would be willing to bet that he has the lowest percentage of players drafted that actually remain in the league. The last year he was in Tampa he was boasting that the Bucs had more former #1 & #2 draft pics on the team than any other team. That's because he was picking up everybody else's trash. He loaded the team with bums and washouts from around the league.

He sucks! He's perfect for Dallas.

12. Yes he can.
The Gruden offense is a very complicated type of west coast offense. That's why he only wanted an experienced QB to run it. Even then it would take a QB (experienced or not) at least 3 years to learn it completely. The terminology alone is mind boggling. No way he can use it in the college game. He would have to use a spread offense and he admits he doesn't know it yet.

He's short tempered and egotistical. His offense is needlessly over complicated. Sometimes you almost wonder if he's trying to fool other teams or make fools out of his own team. That won't work in college football. On top of that he'll not only have to coach, he'll have to recruit players. That takes a lot of time and it's something he's never done. He's not a people person either. He's a jerk.

17. I won't allow it.
I refuse to watch MNF without hearing him excessively praise all sorts of players with statements like "He is a FOOTBALL player!!!"
