1. I'm running out of fingers the number of satan worshippers who never or rarely post
here but are doing so in the last few days just to gloat, not celebrate, but gloat. And they wonder why they're so hated.

I have lived all my life in California, and in my 58 years have spent only about three days in New York City. It's a wonderful town and people there are absolutely in love with it. People in New York have a good excuse to root for the Yankees. I was really touched by H2Oman's story about his cousin.

So, to the rest of us who don't live in New York or never have, do you remember the Yankee fans with whom you grew up? The ones who had never even been to New York? As a general rule, they were either bullies, sore losers or the ones most likely to cheat at kickball. Usually they were all three at once. They were Yankee fans because they couldn't stand to see their team lose, so they rooted for the team that lost the least. They were the kind of people who, a few years later were protesting the war in Vietnam, because it was the in thing to do and an anti-war demonstration was a good place to meet girls, and then a few years later were voting for Reagan. This is the kind of baby boomer who gave our generation a bad name. You may also remember that they just couldn't quietly be Yankee fans, they had to be loud and obnoxious about it. They couldn't just smile and say, "I'm happy because the Yankees won ;ast night." No, they had to say, "The Yankees won last night! Man, did they smear those fucking cunt Red Sox (or whoever it was). They are the greatest baseball team and everybody else is just a fucking loser. And if the Giants (or whoever you rooted) were in the American League, they'd kick their fucking asses all the way back to the garbage dump they call Candlestick Park (or wherever; in California, we couldn't argue with them about Candlestick Park being a garbage dump). They could beat any team. Even one put together by Christ and the fucking saints. They'd smear 'em. Every fucking day."

I haven't checked his profile, but I've got a feeling the poster up there isn't a New Yorker.

7. I suspect you would consider any "celebration" to be gloating. And if the "satan worshipers"
were posting all the time about the Yankees, I suspect that you would complain about that also. When would you expect a Yankee fan to post if not after they just won the WS, just as I am sure a Phillies fan would had they won - or for that matter, a Bosox fan? Please spare us the righteous indignation.

Just for the record, yes, I am a Yankee fan but I am also an American League fan. If the Bosox had been playing the Phillies in the WS I would have been rooting for them and cheered the result if they had beaten them, which I think they would have, given the way the Bosox played the Yankees this year and the fact that they would have beaten the Yankees in the ALCS to get there.

9. I think what the real issue, ignoring one Red Sox fan,
Edited on Fri Nov-06-09 05:55 PM by madinmaryland
is that the Yankee fans that seem to have appeared here and are celebrating. Then when it is pointed out to them that they essentially bought the championship, they have all said fuck you and go on to blame the victims (i.e the small market teams that will never be able to compete consistently, given the current system in baseball). If even one of them would actually admit that the deck is stacked towards the Yankees and the other handful of "big-market" teams, then there might not be the vitriol towards them.

I'm not an American League fan, nor am I a Phillie fan.

10. Yes!
As a Red Sox fan, I wholly acknowledge that the Sox have a huge advantage because they come from a large metro area, have followers from the entire New England region and a nationally-dispersed fan base (Red Sox Nation) of former New Englanders *and their descendants* which give them a tremendous edge over places like Milwaukee. They even have people like me who started rooting for the Sox because I just liked the idea of going to college in Boston when I was younger.

I know this is an "unfair" advantage (so far as anything is fair in professional sports). I admit it. But the huge Sox payroll is necessary to compete with the Yankees in our division. Still, I realize the entire MLB situation is screwed up and would be in favor of a big time luxury tax or, ideally, a salary cap. It would be better if everybody were competitive. Too bad our Yankee overlords don't care about any of that.

13. yeah
its all the Yankees fault that Boston does what they do. If the Yankees bought their title, Boston certainly did too. They had less home grown talent than this Yankees team.

16. Who sets the pace here? Who started ginning up these massive payrolls?
It's an arms race, and the sooner Yankees fans admit their side started it the sooner we can get some real justice in the world.

19. all through the 90s
the Yanks had the top payroll, but it was in line with the other top teams. The contract the Sox gave Manny was enormous the same year the Yanks signed Mussina. The Yanks took it up a notch the following year, but it did nothing to help them win. The Red Sox bought their titles every bit as much as the Yankees and had less home grown players on their team. The Red Sox are in no position to complain about payroll. None at all.

20. So for the last 20 years the yankees have had the top payroll.
Finally, a yankee apologist admits what has been happening. And how many winning seasons, playoff season, world series championships have they had in those 20 years.

Thanks, you just proved what everyone here thinks!

Bought and paid for!

21. actually not
in 96, the Orioles did. Another year in the 90s, the Dodgers did. But all those payrolls were close.

If the Yankees success is bought, so is Boston's. Before this year, they had the highest payrolls of any WS champion ever. I guess that championship is tainted too. Thanks for playing.

22. Dude! You really love digging!
Just freaking incredible.

Ok. So out of the last 20 years, the yankees have only had 18 of the 20 highest payrolls.

I will give you a small point on your second point. The Red Sox have also tried to buy themselves into the yankees league, which just proves you even more wrong.

Again, Thanks for playing.

$ad, just very $ad what $elig and $teinbrenner have done to the sport of ba$eball.

the Yankees were top in payroll in the 80s too. No one cared because they weren't winning.

The haters such as yourself will always hate. I'll just enjoy my team's success.
