A SPECIAL COMMENT FROM A YANKEE FAN TO ALL YANKEE HATERS HERE ON DU AND EVERYWHERE
As a Yankee fan here on DU, I have kept silent as I have read the hate and vitriol thrown at the World Champion NY Yankees. The Yankees have been called, "Satan" "Skanks", and other vulgar terms.

Oh, I was tempted to jump into the fray and make the argument that the Yankeess epitomize PROGRESSIVE economics. That's right. The New York Yankees are the epitome of PROGRESSIVE economics.

Oh, I was tempted to say that the MLB salary structure is a product of the PLAYERS (Read: LABOR) and their UNION. They fought for this salary structure through strikes and work stoppages, and it's the OWNERS (Read: CAPITALISTS) that want to limit LABOR's participation in the revenue for the sport. PROGRESSIVE economics state that LABOR should participate equally in MLB's revenue.

Oh, I was tempted to say that most here forget that the Yankees do share some of their revenue with other teams, including their TV revenue, and more importantly, they pay a LUXURY tax every year for having their payroll over $200 million. They've paid approx. $20 million a year for the past 10 years (or $200 million) in luxury taxes. So if your small market owner wants to pocket the money, then that's not the Yankees' fault. Pittsburgh got a new tax payer funded stadium and millions of revenue from the Yankees directly, and they haven't fielded a competitive team in years.

The Marlins' entire payroll is covered by Yankee LUXURY taxes.

Oh, I was tempted to make these arguments, but why. Your envy of the greatest professional sports franchise in America has blinded you to all reason and logic.

So, instead, I will show you something shiny:

x 27

Onto 28!

5. The Yankees are some model of progressive economics?
First, don't even get me started on the Bouergeousie nature of the MLBPA association as well as players unions in professional sports.

Secondly, the Yankees attract a much more conservative fan base than any other in pro sports. Lets not even start on the state of New York whereas the Yankees crosstown rival attracts more lefties.

Thirdly, Stenbrenner is the furthest thing you'll find from a lefty or the fake left progressives. He is a die hard conservative and always has been.

And to finalize this, the Yankees suck.

Another thing, the greatest dynasty and team ever assembled in New York Sports HISTORY resides in Uniondale; The New York Islanders. 19 straight playoff series victories in a row ( a record that still stands), four straight Stanley Cup Champoinships in a row and Five straight cup final appearances. Lord Stanley's Cup is much more difficult to win.

And it certainly can not be bought.

31. a much more conservative fan base than any other in pro sports"?
Including... let's see, the Dallas Cowpies? Jacksonville Jaguars? Arizona D-backs? L.A. Angels of Anaheim or wherever? Utah Jazz*???

Puh-LEEZE. Mom (moderate Dem), two of my favorite lefty NY women :loveya: , and a fair number of DUers are all Yankee fans.

32. And the Yankees have all of Wall Street rooting for them
Yeah, very conservative fan base.

But of course, there are tons of socialists and reformers working on Wall Street. HAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHA!!!!

But of course, the luxury tax, which the Yankees have no choice but to pay, was really THEIR idea.

Only the fake left would run around claiming that a team run by George Steinbrenner is some model of progessivism.

Plus posts like this are why so many don't like the Yankees. Arrogance is never popular.

Notice the fact that the Marlins have had more WS titles in the last few years than the Yanks and yet I don't hear anyone bitching about them

19. Marlins won MORE WS titles? They won exactly TWICE, in 1997 and 2003.
Edited on Thu Nov-05-09 10:08 AM by DinahMoeHum
They've won NOTHING since 2003.

And in that same 7-year period, the Yankees won FIVE (5) PENNANTS and THREE (3) WORLD SERIES TITLES.

Even in the "last few years", the Marlins haven't even been close to the WS after 2003, whereas except for last year, the Yankees have been in the post-season every year.

Tell me again how the Marlins are better.

EPIC FAIL.

17. That's MLB's fault.
As a Yankees fan, I 100 percent support a salary cap. The Yankees haven't broken any rules as far as salaries are concerned. All the other teams are free to spend the same.

28. the Yankees payroll went down this year
I love how aggregate salaries over the length of contracts is used for Yankees contracts but not for anyone else. But you know what, I don't care. The Yankees are champs and the haters are just jealous. Too bad for you.

Everybody knows, even the apologists, that the Yankees BOUGHT this World Series. You can try to rationalize it away, but when you BUY up the top 3 free agents in baseball and have a payroll that is 40% higher than any other team, the numbers speak for themselves..
