Why does Satan's Team always have one good guy?
Yankees’ Jeter wins Roberto Clemente Award

By HOWIE RUMBERG, AP Sports Writer 52 minutes ago

NEW YORK (AP)—Derek Jeter(notes) again found himself the focus of unwanted attention in a season full of honors.

This time, though, with a little self-deprecating humor, he didn’t need prompting to cherish the moment.

The New York Yankees captain was the recipient of the 2009 Roberto Clemente Award, given annually to a major league player who combines community service with excellence on the field.

Jeter was presented the award by commissioner Bud Selig and Vera Clemente, Roberto’s widow, before the Yankees played the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 2 of the World Series on Thursday night.

“Obviously we’re very excited we’re in the World Series, but it’s nice to get an opportunity to focus on something that really has to do with something more than baseball. It has to do with community work and giving back to the community,” Jeter said. “People in our position, they should take advantage of it. They should try to give back as much as possible.”

1. That is SO FUCKING WRONG! A player from a team that is the COMPLETE
opposite of what Roberto Clemente represented, wins the Roberto Clemente Award.

A FUCKING DISGRACE.

Thanks Mr. $elig and Mr. $teinbrenner.

Fucking disgraceful.

3. This is an individual honor not a team honor
I'm sorry but as much as I dislike the Yankees, it seems like Jeter has done a lot of good in NY, and I find it hard to whine about someone winning an award for that.

7. Don't Red Sux fans have anything better to do after their team lost big?
Calling Jeter a roider without any proof is disgraceful and appalling. If you want to go after some of our guys, there are real ones (Giambi, Clemens, A-Rod). Leave Jeter out of it.

5. I'm sure this is just my inner Yankees fan talking again...
But I have no problems with Jeter winning this. He's one of the best shortstops I've ever seen, and he seems like a pretty decent guy. I used to get into arguments here in Boston over who was better between him and Garciaparra because I've always felt that Jeter was the better of the two.

Hell, there's even a few Montreal Canadiens that I like. Good players are good players, no matter what the team they're on.

6. Oh come on. Even uber-Sox fan Will Pitt gives Jeter his props.
:-)
