"Five Big Ten teams will be in action on New Year's Day beginning in 2011 under terms of new bowl agreements the conference announced on Tuesday.
A new four-year agreement with the Konica-Minolta Gator Bowl, played in Jacksonville, Fla., on New Year's Day and pitting a Big Ten team against a Southeastern Conference opponent, highlights the package, along with a four-year agreement with the Dallas Football Classic, a new game debuting on Jan. 1, 2010 at Dallas' Cotton Bowl as a replacement for the Cotton Bowl game, which is moving to Cowboys Stadium. The Big Ten representative will face a team from Conference USA.
The conference also entered into a four-year deal with the Texas Bowl, to be played in Houston's Reliant Stadium in late December.
The Big Ten extended by four years existing deals with the Outback, Capital One and Insight bowls, and is in the midst of an eight-year agreement with the Rose Bowl. The Outback ( Tampa), Capital One (Orlando) and Rose ( Pasadena, Calif.) are New Year's Day games. The Insight Bowl is played in Tempe, Ariz., on Dec. 31.
All seven agreements extend through the 2013 season."
