Pedro Martinez Will Be Arrested
For murdering his bullpen sometime this season.

He had a 3-run lead when he left the game against the Reds today.

One reliever gave up an RBI double, then got out of the inning.

Then, with the game at 6-4, Brandon Looper, the Mets closer, gave up a 2-run HR and a solo HR to lose the game for Pedro and the Mets.

I fucking hate this bullpen, which goes to show the Mets have NO FUCKING CLUE how to run a baseball team.

Yes, pay $200+ million to a couple of players, but leave your bullpen to a bunch of league minimum guys who will lose all your games for you.

Brilliant!

1. Pe--dro, Pe--dro, Who's your daddy?
Playing for the Mets is like being sentenced to death. Either way, Pedro is a loser.

BTW, I'm a life-long Yankees fan and detester of the Mets and Red Sox. Could you tell?

2. Well, I'll be having a hard time feeling sorry for "poor" Pedro.
He had a good thing going in Boston, but noooooo, he he walked for more $.

3. Amen to that, man.
I've never liked Braden Looper since Spring Training and he really just blew it for me today. BENITEZ, PART TWO.

7. I heard Uggie's name mentioned on a local (Providence) radio...
sports show just yesterday. The chatter was that the Mets were hot on signing Urbina, to have somebody to build their bullpen around.
I guess we'll see.

6. Get used to it
Pedro is going to have the kind of season that Randy Johnson had last year: Lights-out ERA and strikeout count but barely .500 because he has no bullpen.

8. Ah, Mets all the way.
I always root for the New York teams, Mets first as a guy from Queens. It's been painful for the most part. But if you do the math, the Mets in their 40 years have had their fair share of championships.

1986 featured the most entertaining 10th inning in history, and it was a real pleasure to watch it in Massachusetts. I thought it was horrible after Backman and Hernandez made outs, but for some reason just at that moment a spooked look came into the eyes of all the Red Sox fans, and I had trouble understanding why... I figured Carter would get on and then it would be over (that guy is just too arrogant to live through being the last out in a Series).

And then came the obviously inevitable lottery win for the Mets!

I had a great laugh reliving it while watching the HBO special on the Red Sox (written by Steven King, I believe) the other day. It was glorious.

Last year, believe it or not, about two months before the end of the season, I actually thought this:

"I'm sick of the Yankees. I think the Red Sox should pull it off. Just once."

So for one time and one time only in my life, I rooted for the Sox. Call me a whore. I was sure they'd pull it off. And never as certain as when they were down 3-0, because this was the only way the Red Sox were ever going to take it: by being choke-proof. There is no way to choke away victory when you're already down 3-0.

Then again, I also figured this would open a hole in the fabric of American realities, make'em think anything was possible. Bush would lose big and 9/11 would finally break.

Ahem.

9. Retool and Rebuild!!!
It's long past time that the Mets committed to rebuilding.

I've seen these types of teams with Mets for far too long to know that it's not going to work. I still think that they will be a little more competetive this year but what you see is what you get. There will be no true "peak" for this team.

I am still not happy about the Jason Phillips trade. Mike Piazza is getting old and w/0 phillips, there is no depth in that position. Mike Piazza is becomming another Patrick Ewing and Don Mattingly in NY.

Great player, but it's long past time that they stopped trying to build around him. Right now, I'm seeing a team that has no heart and no cohesion.
