Tigers sweep the Cubs!
Edited on Thu Jun-25-09 03:40 PM by LisaM
Of course, as I understand it, the Cubs are actually more deserving to win because they draw well on the road, or something like that. I guess Leyland didn't get the memo.

1. This is why you have to love the Tigers
Magglio Ordonez has been going through a slump. On many teams the fans would have been all over his case; how could one of their big guns be doing so poorly? They'd boo him when he struck out or didn't get a hit. But the Detroit fans have backed Maggs solidly all the way, wanting him to do well as much or more than he did. When he hit a homer today, the place went crazy.

Same when Dontrelle Willis, whose huge salary is a major drain considering his issues, finally pitched a solid game. He got a standing ovation and said later that he's never had fan support like that anywhere.

That's why you have to love the Tigers. Or why I do at any rate.

Incidentally, I know in the past you've bragged about how the fans support the Tigers through thick and thin.

But if you take a look, and their average attendance was helped over the past few days thanks to all of the Cubs fans who made the trip over, its' not particularly impressive considering Detroit's record.

In fact, the Tigers are drawing thousands and thousands fewer than the San Francisco Giants!!! :wow:

5. You really have nothing to offer
Why not just post that as your sig.

It's embarassing. You really don't no jeck about what goes on on the field. You're more interested in what goes on in the stands.

People that follow sports and really interested in the game don't give a rats ass about attendance and shit. That's for bandwagon jumpers.

I remember when the Tigers went on the road to the Cubs in 2006 and the place was SWARMING with Tigers' fans. It was eerie. I watched it on TV - fantastic.

18. Oh please Lisa. Of course Wrigley would have been swarming with
Tigers fans in 2006!! LOL

That was the year Detroit finished 95-67, while the Cubs finished a paper sack over the head-like 66-96!

All of the bandwagon jumpers were coming out of the wood work.

There are always wayyyyyy more SF fans at Dodger Stadium when the Giants are playing well and the Dodgers are playing bad, than vice versa.

So your example, with all due respect, doesn't hold up.

28. OK. Carlin, Hicks and Izzard could sire an army of offspring,
...and not one would ever come up with something as funny as equating your bringing up attendance as being on par with speaking out about torture.

"You know, the Democrats constantly point out torture, and are in fact, also

constantly being accused by the torture lovers of being a one note wonder.

Point being, the Democrats are right doing so, no matter what the slime ball Republicans have to say and how often they complain.

Right is right.

Facts are facts.

Nothing wrong with spelling out the truth .. early and often."

following on the road as the Chicago Cubs, when the truth is no teams other than the Yankees and Red Sox compare to the number of Cubs fans who show up on the road.

(The Braves used to when the were on TBS all the time).

"It was eeerie."

The reason there were so many Tigers fans that year, was the Tigers were good and Chicago sucked ass.

Come on now Lisa. I know baseball.

35. Include population figures there too, why don't you
I think maybe, just maybe the largest city in the US might have the largest number of fans for their teams. Tigers have traditionally drawn well, win or lose, in a beleauguered city that's lost half its population in the last forty years, and, incidentally, has the highest unemployment rate in the country. Today they won their sixth game in a row, they swept the Cubs, their fans were thrilled to see Maggs break out of his slump and all you can do is spout attendance statistics like they have *anything* to do with it.

I'm starting to wonder if you really get sports at all.

If you're going to spout attendance statistics you need to know your demographics.

Edited to add that if you can afford to live in San Francisco, you can afford to buy tickets to a baseball game.

42. SHOW ME WHERE I SAID IT [yelling on purpose]
I do not use those words in this thread. I thought we were talking about baseball. Detroit has a good team and a smaller population than all the cities you list with the exception of Milwaukee. And the highest unemployment rate in the country. So, their crowds will not be as big as those in bigger cities. But they're pretty damn good.

What don't you get and why are you putting words in my mouth, or on my computer screen? I never said that. In previous threads I've asked why everyone was so down on the Wings when Detroit is already suffering so much. And nobody who was could answer me except to imply that they've won enough and it's someone else's turn. You claim everything is about winning and attendance figures then blast a team that is a perennial winner. That doesn't make sense.
