Hey, Upton! What is your prognostication about the battle of the Bay tonight??
The A's are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their last World Series Championship while the Giants are celebrating their 55th!

1. The Giants have not fared well
Edited on Mon Jun-22-09 09:11 PM by Upton
over the years at the Oakland Coliseum. I'm not sure what the reason is, except that the A's home is a terrible place to play baseball.

They'll probably lose tonight with Sanchez going (he's been awful most of the season), but they have Lincecum tomorrow, then Randy Johnson... so I'm optimistic they could end up taking 2 out of 3.

Edit: I am not going to dignify your remark about WS Championships with a reply...considering you are a fan of a team that has dropped to last place in the NL Central and 29th in attendance.

2. Why do you consider Oakland is an undesirable place to play?
OTOH, you did reply to my WS Championship comment!!

BTW, will RJ last more than five innings and will the pen be able to hold up??

3. It's more of a football stadium
and it's over 40 years old..and since AL Davis had it remodeled in the mid 90's for the Raiders, I understand it's even worse for baseball...like you're 3 miles away from the action.

I was originally going to ignore your WS comment but I had second thoughts once I recalled that in recent days you have misinterpreted several of my responses. Therefore, I felt it best to spell it out in plain English so you wouldn't mistake my silence for something else, like agreement for instance.

The Giants have 5 WS Championships and have won more games than any team in the history of organized sports. What a contrast, after this year the Pirates will have more consecutive losing seasons than any team in the history of organized sports.

4. Well you are right, that Al Davis over the last 20 or so years has managed
to pretty much futz everything up. But why is it worse for the A's cross-bay rival as compared to other teams??

BTW, as you keep it going, the NEW YORK Giants have five World Series championships. As you resolutely know, the SAN FRANCISCO Giants have none. Period!

5. SF Giants and NY Giants
are all one big organization, the GIANTS..Many of the Giants great players, Willie Mays for example, have played in both cities..are you going to separate his stats into 2 categories, one for NY and another for SF? Are the LA Dodgers and the Brooklyn Dodgers two different organizations?

You only continue to make this argument because it serves your purpose to make a distinction that in reality isn't there.. because the movement of franchises is part of sports.

8. The fact of the matter is Frisco Giants fans
were not NY Giants fans when the team won and also suffered in New York.

Those championships may belong to the franchise but they do not belong to you as fans.

Speaking of players, you forgot to mention that Jackie Robinson REFUSED to play for that team when the Brooklyn Dodgers left. Many of those players on that Dodgers team were Brooklyn loyalists and absolutely disgusted with the franchise after it moved. Even those that styed with the team to fulfil their contractually obligations.

12. Stop calling them Frisco.
And of course the championships belong to the fans.

We root for the franchise.

It must be killing you to know the Giants have more World Series rings than the Mets.

19. That makes you a mooch
but then again it's consistent as you often have to prop up the successes of others.

Do you sing "I love New York" when you think of those championships.

I freakin dare you to go out in public and claim ownership of those championships to any non Giants fan. They will totally laugh in your face.

The retired numbers, including those from NY

By the way, at AT&T Park, they sell NY Giants merchandise because we are one franchise

Keep trying.

24. Belongs to the franchise
not the fans.

Jackie Robinson refused to play for the Giants. His number is also retired league wide.

Frisco Giants have no championships in their 55 years of existence.

Pathetic.

What a disgrace!

(06-22) 21:29 PDT -- On the day Donald Fehr announced his retirement as head of the baseball players' union, the A's began their 1989 World Series team reunion by paying tribute to Mark McGwire. The first 10,000 fans through the gate for Monday night's interleague game against the Giants received a replica of his jersey.

The people who show up tonight for the official reunion will not get a glimpse of McGwire in the flesh. He was invited to the Coliseum, to throw out the first pitch, but declined.

"We told him we'd make it very discreet," said Ken Pries, a team vice president who helped organize the reunion.

There would be no media, no questions about the past - even if that seemed to undermine the point of a public reunion. This silence has become McGwire's legacy, which he shares in large measure with Fehr.

the A's might not even have won that '89 WS. Remember they got to use their top 2 starters twice in 4 games.

Welcome back cboy! :hi:
