Another Religious Topic....do Moslems believe in a Messiah?
From what I remember of reading the bible, the old testament pretty much set the stage up for the new testament...i.e the messiah will come. Now, for the Jews, the messiah has yet to come, seeing as how Christ did not fit the bill for them. Christians had their messiahs. Moslems...they believe that both Christ and Mohammed were prophets...do they believe in end times? Are they waiting for a messiah, or does their religion completely disregard the messiah?

Your thoughts?

1. They have end times, only prophets, no messiahs.

There were 7 prophets. Mankind is viewed as lesser than God, God cannot be human. They believe corruption of the old writings lead to these beliefs.

edit: I did hear, but I'm not totally sure, that their version of end times starts with a war for a "mountain of gold under the Euphrates river"...In modern day Iraq....by evil men. Another way we are winning hearts and minds with muslims.

edit again: They have Mahdi:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahdi
who will come at end times, who you could call a messiah, but he is not god incarnate.

2. Yes they do
although he has not come yet, similar to Judism. In fact it is a disagreement on this topic that caused the break between the Nation of Islam and mainstream Islam.

3. Yes, maybe a couple.
I'm studying this now and just went to a lecture at the mosque where they addressed this.

They sometimes call Jesus ("Isa" in Arabic) the Messiah and the Christ. As a matter of fact they believe most of what Christians do about him except: That Jesus was the son of God, that he died on the cross, and that he was the Saviour and saved mankind from its sins. They even believe in the virgin birth and that he will return to judge the world. He is considered a prophet.

Now there is this other Messiah - a Messiah for Muslims called the Mahdi. He will transform the world into a perfect Islamic society. The Sunnis and Shi'as differ on his exact nature. I think he is mentioned only in the Hadith and not the Qur'an.
