Food Channel "Secret Life of...Christmas" tells TRUE pagan history
I was floored watching the Food Channel's show, THE SECRET LIFE OF...CHRISTMAS, which told the TRUE history of Christmas and traditions associated with it. They told all about the pagan and Mithraic roots of the holiday, as well as associated pagan traditions of celebrating the coming light and the yule log, etc... and also showed how foods originated with holiday. They pulled no punches and also included the real contributions of Christianity, which came after the pagan contributions. I was really thrilled that they told the true historical story of the holiday and hope to tape it when it comes on again.

That is, of course, unless the right wing fundies find out and ban it, or kill all the show's producers...

2. I think I saw this show last year... or something similar.
If its the one I am thinking of it is great.

"christians" really need to learn their own history. JWs have 'em dead to rights on the holidays.

3. very cool.
the more spiritual my christian faith has become -- the more i see the old religion in it.

you cannot have one without the other.

on edit: i was never, ever a very good traditional christian -- it never matterd to me if mary was a virgin{it really infers ''first born''}. i doubted it.

i wasn't raised to believe that the bible was literal -- but allegorical and metaphor.

and all faith based in historical fact was in fact idolatry.

5. I'm not Christian . . .
. . . nor anything else for that matter. I do love the old traditions though and find great value in seeing and even experiencing as much as the universe through those eyes as my 21st century brain can handle.

6. I thought it meant "unmarried"?
Either way, it didn't mean 'virgin'

8. Not to mention a "rounyon" virgin. I never could figure out what that was
I was singing "Silent Night" as a kid.

11. Just scheduled it on my TiVo
and those are the only times that the online scheduling guide for TiVo has. Catch it while you can, it sounds like a good one.

9. I'd love to subscribe to the Food Channel,
but unfortuantely, with this latest and greatest 4DTV (digital) receiver, I'm no longer allowed to buy it a la carte. :( (this is apparantly something forced by contract upon retail-level resellers by wholesalers)

Sorry Food Network, if I can't buy your programming, and only your programming, I won't be purchaing the Food Network. If there's anything you can do to remedy this issue, I'd be happy to purchase just your channel.

10. Why does the Food Channel hate Christmas?
And therefor hate Jesus, and therefor hate America, and therefor love terrorism, and therefor promote same-sex marriage, and therefor have sex with unwed turtles...

Ok, kidding aside, why is it the FOOD CHANNEL that presents the real story?
