Atheist Students Donate to People in Need

Kudos to the members of Illini Secular Student Alliance for their generosity!

We at ISSA had an eventful weekend as we teamed up with Interfaith in Action, the Newman Catholic Center, the Navigators, and the Jain Student Association to make the holidays a little brighter for some families in need right here in Chambana.

<snip>

We heard the little boy loved cars, trucks, and trains (what little boy doesn't?), so we got him a set of hot wheels and a big firetruck that makes loud, realistic siren and honking sounds. I made sure to apologize to the family in advance for that one.

We picked up some art supplies for the other two girls then hastily wrapped up the presents in the trunk of the car and headed out to West Champaign to meet up with our designated family.

<snip>
When we left one of the girls gave us this adorable thank you card. I've hardly been able to stop smiling since I put it up over my desk. My face hurts.

3. Good thing they didn't post the pix of them beating the crap out of the store Santa
and defiling all the Christmas trees with their atheist propaganda.

I just gave myself an idea...

6.  Atheists who are charitable? How can that be?
I thought charity is only possible if you accept Jesus as your personal savior.

OR, at LEAST you had to believe in a god in order to be a giving person.

I was taught by believers that all atheists are very selfish people.

7. That's what I'd heard too
I guess what we always hear isn't necessarily so.

9. It should be noted that these atheists are ORGANIZED.
Clearly, this organized atheism has an evil, ulterior motive.

10. They joined with Catholics and Jains?
Aren't they concerned about enabling them?

11. Let's see:
Participating in charity regardless of who is involved, and welcoming all including Catholics and Jains. I don't see any enabling there...

Now defending and supporting (through continued attendance and tithing) a church involved in a crusade against women and homosexuals (and I don't just mean the Catholics here), that sounds like enabling.

12. Working alongside others while engaging in charity
Not exactly "enabling".

Giving time, money and other forms of support to organizations/groups who work to oppress women, non-believers, members of minority religions, LGBTs and others...that's enabling.
