At what point does a person get a soul?

Conception? Birth? Baptism? When?

7. It's a choice. Wait, no you're born with one?
I think you have to eat soul food then write your name backwards on the head of a pin with a magic marker.

12. That is definately a different way of looking at it.
Does the soul exist at conception then?

14. Before.
If the soul is really eternal, it exists both before and after the body.

A number of people, myself included, believe the soul enters the body at birth, with the first breath; it's like switching on the power of a great machine. Then you have a complete "person". In that interval from birth to death, the soul is tied to the body, but before and after that period, it is not tied to a body. So I'd say technically the soul "exists" at conception, but it's not tied to the zygote at that point.

22. I was raised Roman Catholic. I was taught the soul enters the body at conception.
The RCC is not a very spiritual religion.

13. True.
It might be better to say you "get" a body.

I think of the soul as preceding birth and possibly existing eternally. But the OP asked when a "person" gets a soul, so I answered at birth, since I define a person as having both body and soul. But I like your answer better because it "breaks the rules" and shows the question in a new light.

16. Am I the only one who doesn't believe in a supernatural soul that persists after death?
Sorry, but the more I see the evidence - from observations of stroke patients to MRI experiments, the more I have to conclude that the mind is entirely physical - it's "software" in the hardware known as our information processing organ, the brain.

Most of the replies are from those who also don't believe in souls; I think.

25. Only people that have been hit by lightning have souls
I have never been hit by lightning although I have done many things that should have gotten me hit.

Now, Life-sparks, that is a totally different deal. Life-sparks form from the interaction of the fire from Muspelheim and the ice from Niflheim.
That creates life Sparks which then are called to those soon-to-be born when they are ready for them. For that reason, no-one can know when it will happen or even if it will happen for any one being (Repugs are proof that not all have Life-sparks). Life-sparks are also recyclable with old Life-sparks inserting themselves into the soon-to-be born so as to continue their own evolution.

27. Souls are simply reflections off the One Thing. As are our personalities and our bodies.
So they exist when conditions arise that favor their manifestation.
